Butterfly Red Hill

A private estate wedding venue on the Mornington Peninsula

Four acres in Red Hill, exclusively yours. Butterfly Red Hill is a venue built around creative freedom; you choose the caterer, you supply the drinks, you decide whether the reception is in the Gallery, on the lawn, or somewhere in between. The property is a patchwork of distinct spaces: olive grove, vegetable garden, woodland, fairy garden, pond, ceremony lawns, an art gallery and a covered deck, each with its own character and light.

Claire and the team work with couples from first enquiry through to departure, offering as much or as little planning support as you need. The Luxe package includes full wedding planning; the Standard and Premium packages let you run your own show with the venue’s recommended supplier list and a mandatory on-the-day coordinator to keep everything on track.

BYO catering, BYO drinks and how it works at Butterfly Red Hill

You bring your own caterers; food trucks, shared banquets, BBQ, cocktail finger food, whatever suits. The venue has no in-house kitchen, so you’re not locked into a set menu or a catering partnership. BYO alcohol works the same way, you supply the drinks in advance, and professional RSA bar staff serve throughout the evening. The permanent Butterfly Cocktail Caravan on site comes equipped with bar fridges, two keg taps and an ice bank, ready for your bar team to use.

Accommodation and getting ready at Butterfly Red Hill

Most wedding packages include one to three nights in the on-site Farm House, which sleeps up to ten.

The Sun Room doubles as a makeup and getting-ready space with a vintage mirror wall and views over the ceremony lawns, while the Whiskey Lounge on the Gallery side offers a separate speakeasy-style prep area for the other half of the wedding party.

Two vintage caravans provide additional accommodation for up to eight more guests, and the nearby Butterfly Dromana property is available for overflow.

Indoor and outdoor ceremony and reception options

Multiple outdoor ceremony lawns sit across the four-acre property, with the Gallery available as a heated and cooled indoor backup if the weather turns. Receptions run in the Gallery, on the covered deck, across the lawns, or a combination.

Small marquees (3×3 or 6×6 metres) can be added adjacent to the Gallery, but large marquees aren’t permitted — the existing spaces are designed to handle celebrations for up to 150 cocktail or 120 seated.

Cost: Packages from $9,000 including exclusive use and on-site accommodation.

Capacity: 150 cocktail; 120 sit-down.

Accommodation: Farm House sleeps 10 (included in most packages). Two vintage caravans sleep an additional 8. Butterfly Dromana nearby for overflow.

Indoors/outdoors: Multiple outdoor ceremony lawns. Indoor Gallery with heating and cooling for ceremonies and receptions. Covered deck.

Distance from Melbourne: 1 hour 10 minutes from Melbourne CBD.

Curfew: 11pm. Guests not staying on site depart at this time.

Note: Pets are welcome for the ceremony and photos but are not permitted inside spaces or overnight. Children welcome; child-minding services can be arranged. Biodegradable confetti permitted outdoors. No sparklers or fireworks.

Wedding styles that suit Butterfly Red Hill

Butterfly Red Hill attracts couples with a clear creative vision who want total control over every detail with the support of an expert venue team. The BYO approach means your wedding can be as unconventional or as traditional as you like, and the variety of spaces across the property gives photographers something genuinely different to work with at every turn. Particularly popular for boho, festival-style and relaxed garden celebrations, but the Gallery and covered deck give it enough structure for more polished receptions too.

“There’s not enough words in the English dictionary to truly describe how incredible Claire and the whole team at Butterfly were, both on our wedding day and in the lead up.
From the moment we stepped foot on the property on our walkthrough we fell in love. The gardens, the farmhouse, and the gallery were exactly what we were after, and I couldn’t picture myself getting married anywhere else.
On the day, we had the most beautiful weather, and all our guests complimented the whole venue, having the option to have different “spaces” for dancing, chatting, photo booths and lawn games made sure everyone was able to do their own thing comfortably.
Most of our guests have told us it was the most fun wedding they’d been to, and a lot of that is thanks to the venue.
Being able to stay there with our whole bridal party the night before meant we could start our day as stress free as possible, enjoying the start of our special day with our favourite people.
Claire and Liam answered every single one of our thousands of questions in the lead up, and on the day, and took any anxiety off our plates. They made sure the day ran smoothly and it was absolutely perfect for us.
Their calm and approachable nature made it feel like we’d always known them – with guests also commenting on the banter we had with Claire during our ceremony. She perfectly captured the journey we’ve been on to get us to our wedding day, and the joy we felt on the day.”
