Chatsworth House sits in the Western District with 180-degree views across rolling hills, the Hopkins River, and ancient river red gums. It’s a collection of bluestone buildings – homestead, stables, schoolhouse, longroom – arranged around a generous central lawn, each one with its own character and enough history to make the whole property feel grounded in something real.
Western Victoria doesn’t get the same attention as the Peninsula or the Yarra Valley, which makes Chatsworth House and the surrounding area a real IYKYK destination. The property sits centrally in the Western District, two hours from Geelong, three from Melbourne, and within an hour of Hamilton, Dunkeld, and Warrnambool.
Ceremonies can take place in the formal gardens in front of the heritage homestead, or among the bluestone outbuildings with the hills and river behind you. For receptions, the Longroom seats up to 100 (150 cocktail), with the Stables and old Schoolhouse offering additional spaces depending on how you want the evening to flow. Add a marquee and capacity extends to 250 guests, positioned to take in those sweeping views.
Indoor, outdoor, or a combination, the property is flexible enough to accommodate all three across the same day.
BYO or preferred suppliers, it’s your call. Chatsworth has a list of trusted caterers familiar with the property, but you’re equally welcome to bring in someone of your own. That flexibility extends to how you structure the dining, from formal sit-down to relaxed shared feasting.
Twenty-two guests can stay on-site across five named spaces: the Dairymen’s Cottage, the Longroom apartments, Squatters Rest, The Shearers, and Drovers Digs. Each has its own feel — some boutique, some more communal — which works well when you’ve got a mix of family and friends staying. Glamping can be arranged on the property for larger groups who want everyone together for the full weekend.
Cost: From $11,000 incl GST (venue hire)
Capacity: Up to 100 seated (150 cocktail) in the Longroom / up to 250 with a marquee
Ceremony options: Indoor and outdoor — gardens, stables, outbuildings, marquee
Location: Western Victoria — 2 hours from Geelong, 3 hours from Melbourne, 45 minutes from Hamilton, 30 minutes from Dunkeld, 1 hour from Warrnambool
Chatsworth suits couples drawn to heritage properties with scale and character who want to build a wedding to their vision rather than choose from templated options. The bluestone buildings and Western District landscape give you a strong visual foundation without needing elaborate styling.
