Jente and Emely spent years working in some of Melbourne’s top hospitality venues before moving to the Hepburn Shire to build something of their own. What drew them was the landscape, the local food and wine producers, and the chance to create an event space that reflected everything they’d learned about quality and generous hosting. Scrub Hill is the result.
The property sits on two acres in Newlyn, between Daylesford and Ballarat, with an 1869 bluestone church at its heart and a custom-built glass marquee looking out across open farmland. The contrast between the two — a 150-year-old chapel with diamond leadlight windows and Baltic pine floors, and a contemporary glasshouse surrounded by countryside — is what gives the venue its range. You can have a classic ceremony in one and a modern reception in the other, or use them in any combination across the day.
Five distinct spaces sit across the property.
The Bluestone Church seats 80 for a reception or 120 for a standing ceremony, with Baltic pine floors and hydronic heating for winter.
The glass marquee seats 120 or holds 140 standing, surrounded by open countryside.
The Sunday School is an intimate 30-seat space with original timber panelling and a deck leading into the elm forest.
The Himalayan Tree Lawn, shaded by a cedar as old as the church itself, works for cocktail hour and canapés between formalities.
And the elm and pine forests offer two distinct ceremony settings that shift with the seasons.
Your booking includes exclusive use of the entire property and an on-site event manager to coordinate the day.
Scrub Hill works with five approved caterers covering different styles and price points, giving you flexibility without the uncertainty of a fully open BYO arrangement. The on-site kitchen is fully equipped, and beverage packages run from $75 to $95 per person through the venue’s timber-clad bar with premium glassware and ice included.
Cost: Venue hire $6,500–$9,000 ex GST (7 hours, ceremony and reception). Ceremony only from $2,250. Beverage packages $75–$95pp.
Capacity: 120 seated in the glass marquee; 80 seated in the Bluestone Church. Up to 140 standing.
Accommodation: No on-site accommodation. Daylesford is nearby with a wide range of hotels, guesthouses and holiday rentals to suit all budgets.
Indoors/outdoors: Indoor ceremonies in the Bluestone Church or Sunday School. Outdoor ceremonies in the elm or pine forest. Reception in the glass marquee, Church or Sunday School. Multiple wet-weather options.
Distance from Melbourne: Approximately 1 hour 20 minutes from Melbourne CBD. Between Daylesford and Ballarat.
Scrub Hill works across a wider range of styles than most single venues can claim. From classic, traditional styles in the bluestone chapel to a fresh, contemporary vision in the glass marquee, or relaxed and rustic through the forest surrounds. And because the spaces are all within the same two-acre property, couples can combine them across the day: forest ceremony, cocktails under the Himalayan cedar, reception in the marquee — an elevated experience for all, with stunning style and low stress.
“We had our wedding at Scrub Hill in February this year, and it could not have been more perfect.
The venue is incredibly stunning and created the most beautiful, intimate backdrop for our day. We had access to the entire grounds which meant we could be flexible with how we wanted to utilise the space. Although it rained, the venue had amazing wet weather options so we didn’t feel like we missed out on anything.
Jente and Emely were great to work with and made sure everything ran smoothly for us. Both our guests and our vendors had nothing but compliments on the space, the views and the food.
If you’re looking for a wedding venue in Victoria that is both breathtaking and professionally run, we cannot recommend Scrub Hill highly enough. Thank you again for giving us an unforgettable celebration!”
