Some venues need styling to feel significant. The Trawool Estate already does — six acres of bushland overlooking the National Trust-listed Trawool Valley, where the views hit you the moment you step out of the car. It’s a stunning country hotel: 27 rooms, award-winning dining, multiple ceremony and reception spaces, and the feeling of being deep in the bush despite being around 75 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD.
Acquired in 2019 by a local family and carefully restored since, Trawool has picked up a string of ABIA awards including Best Hotel Wedding Venue in Victoria, and it’s not hard to see why. Everything is on site — ceremony, reception, accommodation, dining — keeping the celebration flowing with ease.
Outdoor ceremonies happen across two distinct locations: the Terrace, surrounded by untouched bushand, or the Herb Garden with uninterrupted valley views. You choose based on the season, your numbers and the atmosphere you want.
Receptions take place in one of four indoor spaces: Anglesey, the Dome Room, Turbine, or the Wild Water restaurant, each with views across the valley. The spaces suit different scales and moods, from intimate dinners to larger celebrations.
Twenty luxury king rooms sit in the main hotel building (three of which are suites), with seven family-style Valley Rooms in a separate building — each sleeping four, and well suited to families or guests happy to share.
The on-site kitchen is led by Chef Sam Wills, working with locally sourced produce across three-course menus, shared-style plating, cocktail canapés, or a combination. Menus are tailored to each couple.
Cost: The Estate package (all inclusive) starting at $26,000. Or, the team can custom build a package for you starting at $230 per person.
Capacity: 120 guests seated; up to 180 standing.
Accommodation: 27 rooms on site — 20 luxury king rooms (3 suites) and 7 family-style Valley Rooms. Glamping is also considered, depending on timing, for couples who would like to arrange this separately.
Indoors/outdoors: Two outdoor ceremony locations (the Terrace or Herb Garden) and four indoor reception spaces (Anglesey, Dome Room, Turbine, Wild Water).
Distance from Melbourne: 75 minutes from Melbourne CBD via the Hume Freeway.
Trawool works for couples who want a country wedding with proper hotel comfort; no BYO caterers, no DIY logistics.
The Trawool team handles everything, and the valley setting gives it a sense of seclusion that belies how close it is to Melbourne. Particularly well suited to winter weddings and mid-week celebrations, where the valley setting feels like a destination getaway without any of the hassle.
“As the first bride to get married at the newly renovated Trawool Estate, I could not recommend this venue more highly. The staff went above and beyond for us and the hospitality here is incredible. An amazing team are behind this place and what an experience we had. I stayed in the bridal suite Friday night with my bridesmaids and then all weekend with my new husband. The room is stunning and the managers and event coordinator Jemma were so supportive of our vision! The food was also amazing as I ate there all weekend and the food for the event was also next level.”
