Woolbrook has been a working farm since 1856. Five generations of one family have lived in the bluestone homestead, walked the same verandahs, watched the same light move across the paddocks. When Anise and Lachie — the current custodians — opened the property for weddings, they kept that feeling intact. This is a home that happens to make an extraordinary setting for unforgettable weddings.
Set on Wadawurrung land just 30 minutes from Geelong and around 80 minutes from Melbourne, the property unfolds across gardens, paddocks, creek lines and centuries-old monkey puzzle trees.
Inside the homestead, local bluestone sits alongside wide oak floorboards, wood panelling and Australian artwork. Outside, the options for ceremonies and receptions are stunningly varied, from the restored 1856 Woolshed to open-air marquee celebrations on the lawns.
Woolbrook has no ties to any caterer. You choose who cooks, what they cook, and how it’s served, from sit-down to food trucks, dessert vans and shared banquets. BYO drinks is also an option. This level of flexibility is increasingly rare, and it’s one of the things couples cite most when they talk about why they chose the property. You’re building a wedding from scratch here, not selecting from a fixed package.
The $11,000 package covers ceremony and reception, with Anise and Lachie guiding you through the planning process with the kind of personal attention that comes from it being their home, not a commercial venue.
The homestead has five bedrooms available for hire. Couples often book it the night before to settle in with their wedding party, then stay on for the first night of married life. Beyond the ceremony and reception, guests can wander along the creek among river gums, swim in the pool, play tennis, or settle into the billiards room. The 12:30am curfew is later than most regional Victorian venues, which means less pressure to wrap up early.
Cost: $11,000 package for ceremony and reception.
Capacity: Up to 300 guests (marquee). The restored 1856 Woolshed hosts 120 seated or 200 cocktail with an outdoor dance floor.
Accommodation: Five bedrooms in the homestead, available for the wedding party.
Indoors/outdoors: Multiple outdoor ceremony locations across gardens and paddocks. Indoor reception in the Woolshed. Marquee reception on the grounds.
Distance from Melbourne: 1 hour 20 minutes from Melbourne CBD. 30 minutes from Geelong.
Woolbrook works for couples who want to build something from the ground up. The BYO approach attracts people with clear taste and strong creative direction — couples who already have a caterer in mind, who want to bring in their own bar, who care about the details being theirs rather than the venue’s. The property itself has enough character to carry a minimal approach, but it has the space and infrastructure to support incredible large-scale celebrations.
“Just want to say thank you so much for everything!! You’ve been INCREDIBLE to work with and legit Woolbrook was our dream venue. The amount of comments we got about how stunning the property was, is out of control… We had the best day and just really wanted to say thank you!”
