What kind of celebrations can take place on your property?

The great thing is we are not just restricted to weddings, we can host any kind of celebration from weddings, to a getaway for a special anniversary, or a meeting or birthday party.

Are you restricted in terms of numbers?  80 people are maximum

The maximum amount of people we can host is 80, this works well as it allows for an intimate celebration of a couples nearest and dearest in stunning surrounds.

If a couple is interested, but not quite sure where to start with planning a private property celebration, can you suggest the best steps to take?

It’s really important that you visit the property first and get a feel for it. That way know if it will suit your style and needs. You only need reach out to us and we can book a visit for you.

Discuss what you have in mind and want from your day both with your partner and the property manager. Together we can work out exactly what can or cannot be accommodated as neither the couple nor property manager want unexpected surprises on the day.

When visiting, we also suggest you take photos, that way you can make more informed decisions when planning the layout of the day.

Be sure to build a relationship with the property manager and work closely with them. They are invaluable when it comes to what does and doesn’t work, after all they know the property best.

Can couples that book Cape Cottages book their own suppliers (particularly when it comes to catering)? Or do you have a recommended list that a bride and groom can use?

We definitely allow couples to book their own catering, though we also have a list of preferred suppliers that a couple can avail of. Preferred suppliers are there because we’ve worked successfully with them before, trust their services and they know the property also, so we’re always happy to have them on board.

When it comes to weddings, why are private property celebrations such a great idea?

Private property weddings are great for those that want to have total control over their own wedding and we love the different styles and days people share on our property. Some keep it simple and others want to let their creative flair run wild. We find more and more that couples tend to come to us because it can be an inexpensive alternative to a venue, but still comes with wow-factor. In saying that, it’s not for everyone, there’s certainly a lot of work that goes into it.

Tell us about your accommodation options and would there be the opportunity to have guests glamp or camp on the property also?

We have two accommodation sites on our property and they’re so comfortable and gorgeous. The main house which sleeps six and is kitted out with a fully functional kitchen and the small cottage (just renovated) that sleeps a couple. The two sites are far enough away to provide privacy. Though stay tuned as we are currently looking into some glamping options too!

What are your top tips for pulling together a celebration at Cape Cottages – are there some FAQs or common mistakes you can address for us?

Be relaxed.

Once you have an idea, plan it out and stick to it.

Confirm all your suppliers and contracts in advance.

Have a ‘plan B’ in case of inclement weather conditions.

We are a little remote (which is so brilliant) but be sure to have everything with you and any extras you think you might need.

Make a comprehensive checklist.

Just go with what the day brings, you can’t control everything.

Make sure you have time to reflect on the day, with champagne in hand of course!

We all know that the weather in Victoria can be very unpredictable, so what do you advise couples to think of or do in cases where there might be extreme heat, wind or cold when celebrating their wedding at Cape Cottages?

Good question! We are on the edge of the Otways so l always suggest a marquee to keep guests warm and away from the elements. Be sure to budget for extras that might arise in case of inclement weather, think heaters, fans etc. Talk to your suppliers as they might have some on hand too.

Tell us what you believe is the perfect style of wedding to be hosted at Cape Cottages?

A blend of rustic, romantic garden party. Thinks loads of fabulous florals, romantic lighting, long tables with shared plater and a band of guitarist playing on the deck as you soak up the stunning surrounds.
