Here are 7 things every bride should know about beauty before their wedding.

Congratulations bride-to-be, we’ve got you. Here are 7 things every bride should know before their wedding (beauty edition).

  1. Surround yourself with the right people, and that includes your beauty crew!

We’re talking, hair, makeup, skin, nails, even your spray tan gal. In the lead up to your wedding, make sure you use that time to research and meet the people you want with you on the day. If there’s not an instant connection and sparks flying between you, it’s a no from us. We want to all work together to give you the most magical day, nothing less.

  1. Book a bridal trial.

Once you’ve found your beauty crew, give yourself some peace of mind and book a trial with all of them. We want to make sure we click but also that you are super happy with the finished result. This trial time allows you to connect with your artist, create the look together, have them get a sense of the day and your style, make tweaks and see how your makeup wears throughout the day. This one is super important so you can make adjustments to the look or products well before the day. During your bridal trial you will also learn what products you will need for touch ups if you won’t have an artist with you throughout the day.

  1. Start your skin journey early.

You may already be super happy with your skin care routine, and in that case – keep doing what you’re doing! However, if you’re wanting to turn your attention to looking the most glowiest, smoothest, radiant version of yourself as a bride, listen up. Ideally 9 months from your wedding is when you would seek to begin your skin journey – we’re talking a skin consult with products and treatments completely customised to you and your lifestyle. It’s super important to have this routine down pat by the time you’re 3 months out from your wedding, because from here it’s all smooth sailing (with next to no changes in your skin care) to your wedding day.

  1. Don’t try new things in the lead up to your special day.

Which leads us to point number 4. We love risk takers, bold choices and spontaneity, but weeks out from your wedding day, let’s park that. We need simplicity, we need consistency and we need no surprises. We’re not sure how our skin will react to a new treatment or serum, we’re also not sure if our stress levels will cope when our skin begins to peel off days before, so for the sake of your own sanity and those around you, keep the weeks leading up to your special day super predictable with your beauty routine. No laser, no peels, just pure hydration and brightness.

  1. Get inspiration, not duplication.

Here at AF, we love Pinterest, we have a board for every element in our life. Inspiration is amazing, being set on something and being upset when it’s not identical, is not so fun. We encourage our clients to research the styles of makeup they like on similar hair colour, eye colour, skin type, skin tone, to their own, and any previous work we have created so they really get a well rounded view of how the makeup might look on them. You should also be finding inspiration from your makeup artist’s existing work, and if you can’t it might be a great sign to find an artist that has a more aligned style to what you like.

  1. The night before, stick to your routine.

Repeat after me, avoid alcohol, get a good night sleep and drink loads of water. Trust us when we say, your skin will thank you for it. Not to mention, your eyes will be brighter and your lymphatic system will be less puffy. We love to create a calm and ambient atmosphere, so you’ll find us with the salt lamp on, pillow spray spritzed and unwinding before we hit the hay. We know your mind is running a million miles an hour so do what you can to prepare yourself from the inside out.

  1. Wedding morning is here, lean into it.

We know everyone says, the day goes so fast, but it quite literally flies before your very eyes. The morning of your wedding day spent with your loved ones is such a special and intimate moment of the day, savour it. Leave plenty of time to be present and soak up every moment you find yourself in and surrender to the chaos. Don’t forget to allow time for jewellery, body moisturiser and if relevant, a quiet moment with a parent or loved one.
