Real Wedding – Madeleine & Nick, Daylesford VIC
For their wedding day, Madeleine and Nick chose to escape the Melbourne hustle and bustle and immerse themselves in the magic that is Daylesford.
An elegant celebration that marked a near-decade of their love, the sweet pair kept styling simple and let their gorgeous surrounds do the talking.
Their guests were treated to an incredible affair and Tribe talent Tony Evans was there to capture it all beautifully.
The meeting.
We have been good friends since high school, however only started dating a few years later, we have been together for nine years now, and so know what we are getting ourselves in to.
The ‘one’.
There was not one moment, we have been going our since we were 20 and have gone through so many stages of our life together, luckily we have changed together and have become closer.
The proposal.
We had a weekend away in Lorne where we shared our first kiss eight years earlier, he proposed on the beach and we had a lovely night by ourselves prior to telling our friends and family the next morning.
The planning.
We chose the Convent at Daylesford as we wanted to have a wedding away, we love going on adventures and we wanted everyone to be relaxed as we feel when getting out of Melbourne.
Style inspiration.
We wanted above all a party, we wanted a fun, ‘homely’ feel. The convent was great as we had stand up entrees in the Atrium and moved to a different room for sit down mains and continued the party downstairs in the bar.
The dress.
My dress was the easiest decision of the whole process, Mariana Hardwick was the first shop I went to and I knew it was the one immediately. It turns out that my late Grandfather, Phil who was a fabric merchant who used to sell Marianna Hardwick her lace, the ladies who still work in the store remember him, so that was a lovely connection.
Favourite moments.
Madeleine – my favorite moment would have to be walking down the aisle and the wedding ceremony, as there is a lot of fuss about your wedding day but that moment was truly what it was all about.
Nick – agreed, watching her walk down the aisle with her father
Traditions.
My something borrowed was very special to me, Alex one of the Bridesmaids leant me her Valentino’s that she wore to her wedding only 2 months earlier, it pays to have the same shoe size!
Meaning of marriage.
We found the biggest change in our lives was getting engaged, it increased the level of commitment to each other, confirmed our love and we started planning the future of our lives together.
Wedding soundtrack.
Aisle: Holocene by Bon Hiver
Ceremony exit: You Can’t Hurry Love by The Supremes

Funny stories (or near disasters).
We had asked Steve, one of the groomsman to be our celebrant, what better person to marry us we thought, what could possibly go wrong? He tirelessly completed the full course, only to not have his registration completed in time. Luckily Gary Chapman came in and saved the day, doing a fantastic job!
Planning surprises.
We were probably the most amazed about the love, support and happiness we received from friends, family and the wider community. You could feel that everyone was genuinely happy for us, and it was lovely to share that with everyone on the day.
Words of wisdom.
It will be hard to truly make everyone happy, however as long as you both are happy with your day, everything else will fall into place.
