Real Wedding – Adam & Emelia, Bannockburn VIC

Emelia was an Aussie backpacker in England when she met the love of her life, Adam. They settled in the land down under for 7 years, before tying the knot at Clyde Park Winery. The girls from Two Of a Kind added the perfect touches to Clyde Parks barrel room, where Emelia, Adam and their nearest and dearest danced the night away.

Photographer favourites, Hails & Shine were there to catch it all on camera.

In Emelia’s words…

The meeting.

We first met in England when I was backpacking around England/Europe. I was working and living in an Australian Bar at the time called the ‘Walkabout’, in Brighton. I saw Adam a few times and thought he was pretty cute. I did try to have a conversation with him once, but I don’t think he was that interested. It wasn’t until a month later after I tried to have a conversation with him that we actually met.

I was at a staff party one evening and we finally got to have our chance meeting. Adam had come into the bar after work to have a few drinks with his friends. The group I was in asked his friends to come join our table. I thought I finally had my chance to talk to him. We got speaking and hit it off straight away. In fact, his friends had left and Adam stayed out with us.  I gave Adam my phone number and he said that he would call me the next day. I waited all day for him to call and still nothing. By the end of the day, I thought that was going to be the last I saw of him. However, I remembered that Adam gave me his business card which had his number on it. I finally got the courage to call him and asked why he didn’t call me. Everyone knows I am a very up front type of person. Adam said that he had been trying to call me all day,  but silly me gave him one digit too short. After our phone call, we met up again that night to watch movies and the rest, as they say, was history.

The one.

I knew I found ‘the one’ when Adam moved his whole life from England to be with me in Australia.

The proposal.

We were in a relationship for 7 years before Adam proposed. We obviously talked about getting married as we’d be in a relationship for so long, but it never happened as we were always planning amazing trips and other things in a life. It wasn’t really a priority earlier on in our relationship.

I actually thought Adam was going to propose on a trip to America. I had it all planned out in my head how he was going to pop the question in New York on top of the Empire State Building. I had obviously had watched too many movies! On the plane trip home I said to Adam, “look I’ve got to be honest, I thought you were going to propose to me on this trip”,  and told him where and when I thought he was going to do it. He just laughed at me and said he would one day when he had the money. After this trip I pretty much had given up on the idea and had to have a word with myself to stop pre-emting the proposal.

It wasn’t until 6 months later on a trip to Bali when Adam popped the question. We had always talked about getting married in Bali as it was one our favourite places in the world to visit. Most of the time when we holidayed in Bali we were always on the hunt to find a wedding venue for the future as we were adamant that one day, when the time was right, we would get married over here. This trip was no different. We had booked in to see this beautiful villa in Canggu in Bali. We were looking around the Villa and just when we were about to leave Adam called me over to a section of the Villa and there was champagne and roses. Right then I knew what was happening! He got down on one knee and asked if I would like to marry him, of course I said yes. Everything was just perfect on how he went about asking me. We really wanted to get married where we got engaged, however after thinking about it,  it was going to be really hard for some of our family and friends to attend the wedding. In the end we decided to have it closer to home which now we know we have made the right decision as the day would not be the same without important people in our life being there. We plan to honeymoon in Bali instead!

The planning.

We had only recently moved to Geelong when we started looking at wedding venues. As wine lovers we knew we wanted to get married at a winery. We looked at about 5 wineries around the Geelong region, however we really were drawn to Clyde Park Winery. We loved the rolling hills and the rustic feel of the venue.

Style inspiration.

We knew the theme we wanted, but didn’t know how to pull it together. The girls at Two of a Kind styled the venue perfectly.

The dress.

I originally started looking for my dress in High Street, Armadale in Melbourne. There were so many amazing dresses on the street, but there was something missing on each dress I tried on.

I had a vision of what I wanted and came across long time dressmaker Catherine R Couture who is located in Kew in Melbourne. Catherine immediately saw my vision and made exactly what I wanted. I could not recommend getting your dress made highly enough, my dress fit like a glove.

Favourite moments.

There were so many, but I would have to say walking down the isle and seeing Adam’s face, he was really emotional. It was a beautiful moment.

Traditions.

I incorporated the something old, something new and something borrowed.

The meaning of marriage.

It means being committed, working as a team and going through life together.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle song: You make it real – James Morrison

First Dance: Just the way you are – Bruno Mars

Any funny stories/near disasters.

There were some renovation works going on at venue that weren’t finished on time due to bad weather. We didn’t find out about until a few days prior to the big day which stressed us out. In the end there wasn’t much we could do about it and overall it didn’t effect how beautiful our day was.

Planning surprises.

If I’m going to be honest, it would have to be the cost. My best advice is to work out your budget early on and stick to it. It is easy to get carried away.

Words of wisdom.

Don’t sweat the small stuff and make sure you remember to enjoy every little moment on the day as it goes so fast.
