Real Wedding – Amanda & Brett, Springmount VIC

Amanda and Brett were always meant to be, as fate kept bringing them together throughout many stages in their life.

After a very thoughtful proposal, this perfect pair tied the knot at Aghadoe Estate – a beautiful farm property in Springmount. There were many memorable moments throughout their celebration, but a surprise serenade from Brett was the most magical for Amanda.

Although the bride and groom got their DIY on for most elements of their wedding, they enlisted the help of some A-Team tribe members; celebrant Chloe Jetson was there to lead the ceremony along with photographer, Sarah Godenzi, and Annette and Dani Films to document the darling details of the day.

In Amanda’s words…

The meeting.
Brett and I met at Uni. We were both studying PE Teaching at RMIT.

The ‘ one’.
I always knew Brett and I had something special. We came in and out of each other’s lives over many years and fate kept bringing us back together, so I guess that’s how we knew!

The proposal.
Brett is a really calm, laid back person. We had recently sold our house, moved out into his parents and were just about to head off on a month-long trip overseas. The week leading up to Christmas Brett was acting quite strange and weirdly on edge.  He’d disappear to ‘do shopping’ which was also weird for him. On Christmas day Brett surprised me with “one last present”. As he blindfolded me and took me to Fitzroy Gardens, he surprised me with these cards similar to the scene from ‘love actually’ with photos and words on each card. The last card prompted him to get down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was like the whole park was empty and we were the only ones in it. It was a great day to then celebrate with our families.

The planning.
To be honest, I thought I might have enjoyed the process a little more. We decided to do a lot ourselves as our venue was pretty much a blank canvas. I was a tad overwhelmed at times with the sheer size of the jobs list to get through. However, I had the best support from my mum, my bridesmaids, my close friends, family and my husband which made the process a lot more manageable.

Style inspiration.
We are pretty relaxed people and we wanted our wedding to reflect that. The venue was a beautiful farm property, so we went with a rustic vibe with a touch of modern.

Aghadoe Estate was the first venue we visited, and we could never find another that could compare. The venue catered for our idea of using different spaces on the property throughout the day. We loved the barn and the idea that we could stay on the property with our bridal party for the long weekend.

We were so blessed to meet Janine from Swans Lane Event Hire. She was so helpful with all our hire items and really helped me create a theme with all her beautiful hire items. My mum and I went out to her property to view all her items and she and her husband were just a dream to work with.

The dress.
I just wanted something I could dance in that was fun and just ‘me’. I had my eyes on a dress with a low back or a bit of wow factor without being too over the top. I just loved my dress and could not have been happier with my choice on the day.

Favourite moments.
Oh, this is so hard! There are so many. Walking down the aisle, being surrounded by all the people we love, our speeches, and our sparkler exit. My most favourite part was when my husband surprised me with a song he had written for me, and performed it with his mate and one of the band members. The guests just loved it, it was funny, romantic and such a catchy song that guests were singing the day after, truly special.

The meaning of marriage.
Marriage signifies a lifelong commitment to one another and the beginning of our next chapter together.

Wedding soundtrack.
Aisle: This Year’s Love by David Gray

Reception: You Make My Dreams by Hall and Oates

Aisle exit: Happy by Pharrell Williams

First Dance: Perfect by Ed Sheeran

Exit: Sky full of Stars by Coldplay

Funny stories (or near disasters).
It started pouring with rain about 10 minutes before the ceremony was due to take place.  I was determined to have it outside so I sat tight for almost an hour and waited for the rain to pass. The guests and my husband were having a ball in the barn mingling and enjoying the acoustic tunes, canapés and drinks so the decision to delay it ended up being the best one we made for the day. Clare, our catering/event coordinator from Truffleduck, my photographer and videographer were just amazing in assuring me the guests and my husband were happy to wait. While we were doing our vows, the sun even came out and it was just stunning from that point on.

Planning surprises.
The weather. March was scorching hot however two days before there suddenly was 60% chance of rain. And we had no back up plan. We scrambled hard to find a Marquee and Melton Party Hire were absolute life savers who magically had a marquee for us to hire 48hrs before the wedding.

Words of wisdom.
Always have a backup plan. And don’t sweat the small things. Plan a wedding that YOU will love, not those around you, and you will guarantee it will be the best day of your life! We also delayed the ceremony for an hour and our guest had drinks before the ceremony, they said they loved this idea, so don’t stress if timing doesn’t go exactly to plan. It was worth waiting.
