Real Wedding – Anna & Jake, Barwon Heads VIC

It was an easy choice to be married near the coast for Anna and Jake as they’ve always loved the ocean and it was imperative Jake be able to surf with his Dad and groomsmen the morning of their wedding.

Opting for a timeless and elegant style to complement their beautiful venue in Barwon Heads, the couple focused on treating their guests to good food, good wine and incredible entertainment to dance the night away.

Dressed in a One Day Bridal gown with a modern feel and open back, Anna wowed her groom, as they celebrated their love story.

Tribe talent Elk and Willow captured all the magic, of which there was plenty.

In Anna’s words…

The meeting.

I met Jake’s cousins (who also happen to be some of his closest friends) about five years ago on a sailing trip in Turkey and they introduced us when we arrived home to Melbourne. It took them a little while to convince us to catch up for dinner – the rest is history!

The ‘one’.

It’s hard to pin point the exact time but we clicked from the moment we met and, importantly for both of us, got along with each other’s family and friends from the beginning. It just felt right.

The proposal.

Jake booked a surprise weekend away in Johanna (down the Great Ocean Road) over Easter to celebrate our three years. On the Saturday morning we did part of the Great Ocean Walk and we stopped at a quiet lookout over Johanna Beach on the way back. He got down on one knee and popped the question looking over the beach. It was perfect.

Style inspiration.

We wanted to get married somewhere coastal, close to where I grew up (and lucky for Jake, somewhere he could have a surf with his Dad and groomsmen on the morning of our wedding).

We opted for a timeless and elegant style to complement the stunning old Club House and its surrounds. The table arrangements were simple, beautifully styled with candles in glass vases and roses (white and dusty pinks) down the centre.

Good food, wine and music were also really important to us to create an unforgettable evening, shared with our closest family and friends.

The dress.

I found my dream gown at One Day Bridal in South Melbourne. I was surprised it was one of the first dresses I tried, on the first day of looking. I didn’t think it would be that easy! I went in with an open mind – my main criteria was modern with an open back.

Favourite moments.

Everything! If I had to pick one moment though it would be our ceremony. Seeing my (now) husband at the end of the aisle and all of our family and friends in the one place was so special. The dance floor was also so much fun!!

Meaning of marriage.

For me and Jake, marriage means committing to spend the rest of our lives with one another and supporting each other through whatever life throws our way. Our wedding day was the opportunity to celebrate our love and friendship with those closest to us.

Wedding soundtrack.

Processional: If I ain’t got you by Alicia Keys

Signing of the register: Message to my girl by Split Enz

Recessional: You make my dreams come true by Hall & Oates

Reception entry: Electricity by Dua Lipa

First dance: Love on top by Beyoncé

Words of wisdom.

So many people told us the day would fly and it really does! If you can, try to spend a few moments, just the two of you, to take it all in. To have all of your family and friends in the one place celebrating together is incredibly special.

Janelle and Joel’s day sure was a dream, check out this Coldstream celebration here.

ANNA & JAKE’S TRIBE

Ceremony: Holy Family Catholic Church, Barwon Heads.

Reception venue / location: The Barwon Heads Golf Club. Nigel, Damian and the staff at the Barwon Heads Golf Club were absolutely incredible throughout the entire process. Nothing was too much trouble and they ensured the night ran seamlessly.

Celebrant/Officiant: Fr. Darien Sticklen.

Photography: Elk & Willow – Jess’ eye for detail is phenomenal. She captured every moment perfectly.

Videography: Enamoured Iris. Patty (a school mate of Jake’s) and his team were amazing.

Styling / Hire: Memphis Hire. We hired wine barrels and festoon lights for the deck outside and around 80 candles for the tables.

Florist: Botanica Fresh Flowers. Sarah is so talented. It was very warm on our wedding day (30 degrees and humid) and she made sure our flowers were in perfect condition. Everything from the boy’s buttonholes, the gorgeous arrangements at the church, to my bouquets and table styling was flawless.

Hair and make-up: Renèe Camilleri. Renèe did hair and makeup for me and my three bridesmaids. She’s the best in the biz.

The Dress: One Day Bridal, South Melbourne.

Veil: Raffaele Ciuca, Armadale.

Shoes: Aquazzura.

Rings: J.G.S. Jewellers, Malvern. Huge thanks to John for designing the perfect engagement ring and wedding bands. We also had our wedding bands engraved with our initials and wedding date at Fedele Jewelworks – Hawksburn Village, Prahran.

Bridesmaid’s dresses: Bec & Bridge

Menswear: Calibre

Cake: Sandy Paterson.

Stationery / Signage: Our close friend, Gabby. We created our website for RSVPs and extra details ourselves using Squarespace.
