Real Wedding – Bek & Jordan, Nagambie VIC

Bek and Jordan’s dreamily romantic celebration gives classic glam aesthetics underpinned by unbridled emotion and fun. From the very beginning of their planning journey, these two set out to craft a wedding that takes its cues from the stunning surroundings: understated elegance infused with love and revelry.

Keeping their palette monochrome meant that sweet blush and softest vanilla florals lit with row upon row of candlelight create a striking effect. The old-world stone of epic venue Mitchelton gives a sense of gravitas, while the overwhelming smiles captured in every gorgeous frame by Hey Jack bring the light.

Central to all the glam are, of course, Bek and Jordan, bringing their best main character energy. Bek is a randiant modern princess in her gown by Karen Willis Holmes, complete with perfectly on-point thigh-high split and artfully draped bodice. Jordan cuts a sharp silhouette in his classic black tux by YSG Tailors.

As the sun sets on the new Mr and Mrs, Bek switches up her gown for a chic party frock by fashion darling Khya, perfect to dance the night away in the arms of her husband.

The meeting.

Jord and I met 11 years ago while waiting in line at a nightclub. My friend and I jumped in line with Jordan and his friend, introduced ourselves, and instantly hit it off. We had no idea who each other was, but later realised we were both there for a mutual friend’s going-away party.

The four of us hung out the rest of the night, Jord and I exchanged numbers, and the rest is history.

The ‘one’.

We both just felt really at ease with each other and had the best time. We were inseparable from the start and just couldn’t get enough of each other.

The proposal.

Jord booked us in for a winery lunch at Jackalope on the Mornington Peninsula, and he popped the question in the vineyard while we were waiting for our table. There were lots of emotions, and after our lunch, we had our family and a few close friends over for an impromptu celebration over a glass of bubbles and some pizza.

Planning process.

Jord and I celebrated his 30th birthday with a few nights at Mitchelton, and after being at the hotel and winery, we loved everything about it. We saw a wedding that weekend happening in the cellar, and both said we’d love to get married there. We loved how romantic and unique the space is and that the winery had everything on site – a hotel, winery, restaurant/café – so it was a really easy decision. Once we’d locked in a date, we started to plan the rest of the day, starting with our big vendors like photography, videography and, of course – the dress!

Style inspiration.

We wanted something quite classic and understated for the day as the venue had such beautiful spaces. We kept the styling quite minimal, with a colour palette of whites, greys, and some green.

Real weddings were the best inspiration to draw from, as well as seeing other weddings at Mitchelton. We drew lots of inspiration from Instagram and TikTok, as well as weddings we were attending.

The ceremony.

Our ceremony was lighthearted and full of love. We’ve been together for over a decade, so we had lots of memories for our amazing celebrant, Alex, to draw on. The most special part was definitely when we were announced as Mr and Mrs O’Connor – Jordan’s grandparents’ surname that we decided we’d both change our names to. We’re very close with his grandpa and were equally close with his late grandma, so that was a really special moment for us and our families.

The outfit.

I’m the most indecisive person, so I found it tricky to decide on a wedding dress. However, when I tried my dress on, it was the perfect balance of all the little things I was looking for. I also had a second dress—an understated strapless mini—that was a perfect party dress. Jord went for a classic black tux and loved working with YSG Tailors to customise it.

Favourite moments.

It’s so hard to choose just one! The morning of for both of us was really special as we each got ready with our bridal party and also had lots of family around. We were all staying at the hotel at Mitchelton, so it was really fun having our nearest and dearest popping in and out of our rooms in the morning while we were getting ready. My amazing bridesmaids made my morning so fun and relaxed all my nerves. The ceremony was super special, as were our post-ceremony portraits, just taking time together to soak up the day.

When we entered our reception to Feel So Close by Calvin Harris, the vibes were HIGH – entering as Mr & Mrs O’Connor to our friends and family going crazy – waving their napkins and cheering us – was a moment we’ll never forget. We danced through the entrance to our bridal party, who were going equally crazy on the dance floor, and the moment when we looked around to see all of our favourite people in one place, so happy for us, was pure magic.

We knew we wanted the dance floor to go off so booked Sammy on Percussion as a surprise on the night and he was insane. He took the dance floor to another level and brought SO much energy the entire night. We also had the best surprise from my uncle, who whipped out his trumpet and blasted tunes with Sammy for the d-floor. We both had so much fun on the night and so did all of our friends and fam.

Meaning of marriage.

Marriage to us means bringing the best out in each other, being a team and sharing the same values.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Make You Feel My Love by Adele and then Real Love by Jess Glynn

Reception entry: Feel So Close by Calvin Harris

First dance: What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong

Planning surprises.

I was surprised by how many little things go into planning your wedding—tiny details like song choices, the order for speeches, getting ready pyjamas, etc. These details all go into shaping your perfect day, but there were lots of little things that I totally didn’t anticipate until I was going through the motions.

Words of wisdom.

Try to remember what’s most important to the two of you for the day – it’s easy to get caught up in other weddings you see on social media, as well as comments from people around you, so remember what elements are most important to you and stay true to that. It’s the most incredible day to celebrate with your nearest and dearest, and there are things that may not go exactly to plan, but try not to let that worry you. There’s so much love around you, so soak up every moment of the day and enjoy it.

A lot of my suppliers came via recommendations from friends or from Mitchelton. Everyone who helped bring our day to life was incredible, and we couldn’t recommend them more highly.
