Real Wedding – Brett & Alysse, Strathtulloh VIC

Alysse and Brett set out to create the ultimate winter wedding love fest; the result was a day filled with blissed-out beauty. Set against a sweeping bushland backdrop, this destination celebration feels like a sweet escape from reality to a delightful dream.

White-tipped glamping tents line the horizon, giving glammed-up Glasto vibes to the ceremony setting. Flowing arrangements of dried grasses, oversized fronds and soft tendrils add stunning impact against blooms of muted rust, soft cream and deep musk with accents of burnished gold. Simple jute rugs perfectly finish the setting. But, for us, it’s the stunningly soft winter’s light that brings a touch of magic to the day, evident in every incredible image by superstar team photographer Glen Nicholls and cinematographer Directors Edge.

Alysse and Brett offer words of wisdom to all couples planning a wedding to stick to their vision and ensure they have no regrets. Scrolling through this wed-fest to wow, it’s evident their advice was perfect. As the sun went down and the guests gathered to dance the night away under the arched canopy of a tipi tent, there is no shortage of amped-up emotion and joy-filled fun. Scroll on to see every darling detail!

The meeting.

We locked eyes whilst at work, all very professional, and no conversation was exchanged except regarding our patient (I’m an emergency nurse, and Brett is a police officer). We then happened to be at the same bar in Melbourne the next night. I approached him, and he had no idea who I was (I had my hair done, no glasses and make-up on). After re-jigging his memory, he finally remembered who I was, and the rest is history.

The ‘one’.

Our connection was instant and effortless. I knew by our third date that he was my person and had no problem telling him so.

The proposal.

During lockdown 2021, Brett planned an indoor picnic which was absolutely beautiful. Then hours later, he asked if I wanted to have a bath. He then blindfolded me and took me upstairs to our bathroom, where he had written in rose petals, “Marry Me”. The entire bathroom was covered in candles and flowers.

Planning process.

I had a vision, and I just went with it. I trusted my gut and didn’t overthink things too much when booking vendors. I had a rough idea of how much I wanted to spend, but I took quality over saving $1000, and I’m so glad I did because every single vendor was absolutely sensational. Especially Glen Nicholls and Glen from Directors Edge. I don’t have a single regret or wish I did something else. Our day was absolute perfection, and the vibe we wanted was carried through all day.

Style inspiration.

We wanted it to be a party, a true celebration of love. So we created the ultimate winter wedding love festival.

For inspiration, I loved real weddings. I found them more relatable and authentic, which felt more achievable instead of picture-perfect from a shoot.

The ceremony.

We got married at my parent’s property. It was very relaxed.

The outfit.

I tried on every style of dress and ended up with one that I never saw myself in. It was over-the-top head-to-toe beads, and it was absolute perfection without being too princess-like.

Favourite moments.

Marrying the love of my life in front of all of our nearest and dearest. Dancing the night away with our favourite people.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Feels like home by Chantal Kreviazuk

Reception entry: Heaven by Ziggy Alberts

First dance: Despacito by Justin Bieber

Planning surprises.

How many opinions people had, and how many people thought that their needs and wants were more important than our wishes for the day.

Words of wisdom.

Stick to your guns; if you really want something, then get it. Don’t leave the day with any regrets.
