Real Wedding – Brigitte & Bryan, Bellarine VIC

Brigitte and Bryan’s glorious Bellarine celebration was brought together with a stunning mix of modern glamour and elegant styling, and sticking true to their belief that their wedding celebration should be breathtakingly beautiful but equally as relaxed.

Playing up to the venue’s sweeping ocean views, their gorgeous outdoor ceremony and a fresh and classic approach to florals, all elements combined to see them nail their brief, and then some.

Beautiful, heartfelt and with a gorgeous love story to tell, this day was captured by POET Weddings.

In Brigitte’s words…

The meeting.

Bryan and I first met in 2013 at the Running of the Bulls in Spain. We had both been friends of friends without ever crossing paths before in Australia. Although it wasn’t love at first sight, with Bryan living in London and myself in Melbourne- we wouldn’t see each other until more than a year later. When Bryan returned to Melbourne we found ourselves in the same friendship group and spending more and more time together – and as they say, the rest is history!

The ‘one’.

I had to return home to Wodonga unexpectedly for a family emergency. Bryan had only met my parents once and had never been to my family home in Wodonga. Despite this, Bryan caught the train from Melbourne to Wodonga at 6am on Saturday morning to support me, after a big night out! He completely surprised me as well as organising my Dad to collect him from the train station. From this day forth I knew he was a keeper.

The proposal.

It was any other Thursday night and Bryan had told me on this particular evening we were going to one of his work functions. I decided to stop in on Chapel Street shopping on my way home – completely unaware that he had a huge surprise waiting for me at home! When I finally arrived home (late!) Bryan had turned from nervous to annoyed! I walked in to a candle-lit path with Bryan standing at the end. He had our favourite song playing – Latch, Disclosure. When he got down on one knee I was in such shock that it took me a few seconds to actually realise what Bryan had asked me, and for me to say yes! The night was topped off when he informed me that there was actually no work function – we were going for dinner at Vue De Monde to celebrate.

The process.

Fun, exciting, creative, stressful and overwhelming!

Bryan and I had a one and a half year engagement as we were engaged mid-year and he had strict rules we could not be married during footy season!

We both love food and wine and shared the same vision right from the beginning – we wanted to be married at a winery. We spent weekends looking at various venues in the Yarra Valley before deciding to venture down to the Bellarine Peninsula – a destination where we both had never been before.

We left the spectacular Terindah Estate on Saturday and had not even made it back to the car before deciding that it was the venue!

Style inspiration.

We wanted our wedding to be a mix of glam, classy and elegant, but to also feel relaxed. The stunning balcony, ocean views and outdoor ceremony provided the relaxed feel. Our fresh and lush tones and table settings enabled the elegant and classy touches.

The dress.

Soon after our engagement I was quick to decide that my dream dress would be from One Day Bridal.

I sighted a One Day Bridal dress very early (17 months before the wedding) and I had to try it on.  I left One Day thinking “that’s the one” however, thought it was far too early to purchase my wedding dress.

I waited another six months before going dress shopping with my mum and sister.  I went to three other stores before returning to One Day Bridal and purchasing the first dress I had tried on – with a few added personal touches!

Favourite moments.

Walking down the aisle and Bryan and I seeing each other for the first time was very special. Our photos were also a very intimate and memorable time that only we shared.

Meaning of marriage.

Marriage means supporting each other in the good times and the bad.  Constantly encouraging one another to be the best versions of ourselves and making each other feel special every single day. Our marriage was a celebration of our love and an opportunity to legalise our ongoing commitment to one another.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Disclosure by Latch – sung by our incredibly talented friend Lara

Bridal party entry: Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke

Bride and groom reception entry: Blakk skinhead by Kayne West

First dance: You’ve Got The Love by Florence & The Machine

Funny stories (or near disasters).

Two days before the wedding I realised that the best man’s shirt was a different style to the rest of the bridal party! I frantically called around Melbourne to find a store that had the correct size/style in stock.

I had a minor issue with my dress two weeks before the wedding which resulted in my dress having major alterations. The ladies at One Day were so kind and understanding – they made a stressful time more manageable. I could not rate them more highly!

Planning surprises.

The little things take a lot of time! Despite how organised you are there are so many little things that can only be done in the weeks/week/days leading up to the big day. Delegation skills are the key here!

Words of wisdom.

Remember why you are getting married! It is so easy to get caught up in the planning of the big day. Take some time out in the lead up to your wedding to spend quality time with your fiancé.

Plan your day around your values as a couple – not around pleasing others. Your wedding day should symbolises you as a couple.

If things do not go to plan on your wedding day (Eg. you forget to cut the cake like we did!) do not worry! You will be the only people who know – relax, have fun and enjoy the special day.
