Real Wedding – Caitlyn and Steven, Bellarine VIC
After getting engaged by the ocean in Lorne, beautiful Jack Rabbit provided a sublime coastal setting for Caitlyn and Steve’s I-do’s.
From the gorgeous sun-dappled day to the breathtaking Bellarine twilight, this was one celebration filled with picture perfect moments.
Caitlyn was the epitome of contemporary couture elegance in her gown by Georgia Young. Choosing soft, natural styling in their room decor and florals created a look that can only be described as coastal chic, perfectly offset against the magical ocean montage that surrounded them.
As Caitlyn explained, turning back from the sunset to see all their favourite people celebrating inside to cracking tunes from Baker Boys Band, was a truly memory-making moment.
Jess Nicholls was the legend behind the lens, capturing all the stunning scenes of Caitlyn and Steve’s special day.
The meeting.
Steve and I met when we were in high school, attending different schools but mingling with the same larger friendship group. We often ended up at the same events and before long, realised we really enjoyed each other’s company.
Fast forward nine years and here we are!
The ‘one’.
When I was 100% comfortable and happy being in silence, in Steve’s presence. We have so much fun together and we both just enjoy the simple things in life.
The proposal.
On Christmas Eve of 2019, Steve took me to my favourite lookout in Lorne; Teddy’s Lookout. We are frequent visitors to Teddy’s, but never once had the place to ourselves, except for that moment. Not one person was in sight. It was just perfect. I could not wipe the smile off my face, and I was so excited to share the news with my friends and family.
Every time we are down in Lorne, we go back there, and it brings back so many happy memories of this special moment together!
Planning process.
Once I had decided on the style I was going for; I found it so easy and enjoyable! I loved every moment and the whole process of planning my wedding was lots of fun. I am a Prep teacher and love all things organisation, so that’s always a bonus when planning such a special event.
Don’t ask me about the days leading up. I was a nervous wreck. I needed to know that everything was going to go to plan. However, I soon realised that no matter what happened, I would have my friends and family there to celebrate and it would be a perfect day no matter what!
Style inspiration.
I had attended lots of my close friends’ weddings and loved so many different elements from each of them. After spending many hours looking through magazines and on Instagram, I knew I wanted to go for a timeless, classic style.
I did most of the decorations and styling myself along with the guidance of a close friend, and I was so happy with how it all turned out.
The outfit.
My dress was the first dress I tried on. I never really had a picture in mind of what I wanted, so in some ways I think that made the process somewhat easier.
I went to Georgia Young, and I couldn’t speak highly enough of the process. I chose an off the shoulder dress but wanted more of an A-line skirt. Georgia cut a piece of material on the spot, pinned it on, and the look from my bridesmaids told me it was ‘the one’ before I even looked in the mirror. I felt like a princess.
Favourite moments.
Standing outside together, watching our favourite people in the world in the same room, at the same time and knowing that they were all there to celebrate and create such special memories with us!
Meaning of marriage.
A team. It’s not just you anymore. It is about supporting each other through all of the ups and downs that life throws your way and learning and growing together. It means making the most of every moment and creating beautiful memories together.
Wedding soundtrack.
Aisle: I’m Gonna Be by Sleeping at Last
Reception entry: Teardrops by Womack & Womack
First Dance: You Make My Dreams by Alexis Francis (acoustic version)
Funny stories or near disasters.
As I was hopping out of the car and getting ready to walk down the aisle, I had the realisation that I forgot to shave my legs. Oops. I guess it was lucky you couldn’t seem them!
Planning surprises.
I genuinely felt like this would be a really stressful process, but I was pleasantly surprised by the ease and enjoyment of it all. Everyone kept asking me “How is the planning going, are you stressed?”
I enjoyed it much more than I expected and would do it all again in a heartbeat!
Words of wisdom.
Your wedding day is one of the most magical and special days you will share together.
You invest so much time and energy in planning and preparing for it, and I can honestly say it goes so quickly! Make sure you take a moment away from your guests and soak in the day.
There is never a moment quite like having all of your favourite people in the same place, at the same time.
Loving Caitlyn and Steve’s stunning florals? Peach tones are such an understated way to make an elegant impact, we can’t get enough! Take a look at our curated collection of coral toned weddings here. Best enjoyed with a fizzy glass of something pink!
