Real Wedding – Diana & Brendan, Coldstream VIC

A pash-and-dash turned into a proposal for Diana and Brendan, who were wed on the grounds of Coombe in the Yarra Valley.

Diana’s dress was a show-stopper so we were hardly surprised when we found it was handcrafted by the talented team at Luci Di Bella. Wanting something bold but classic with a modern twist, Diana absolutely wowed as she made her way down the aisle towards the love of her life.

Exchanging vows in front of their nearest and dearest was a magical moment, especially as the sun shone, creating a relaxed and stunning atmosphere to then party the night away.

Tribe superstar, Fern and Stone Photography was behind the lens – check out her incredible images as well as some savvy words of wisdom on wedding planning by the bride herself.

The meeting.

Brendan and I met seven years ago (2012) in line at the Bridge Hotel in Richmond! We had a great night out and while I thought it was a pash-and-dash, he asked me for my number and called me the next day to take me out to coffee!

The ‘one’.

I feel like we knew we had something good – for me, I think I knew I found the one when I realised that our relationship got better and better as they years went on, we grew together and it just all clicked!

The proposal.

Brendan popped the question on my Graduation Day. When we met was when I changed my career path. So for first next five years of our relationship, I was studying! I did say to him, please whatever you do, don’t propose to me whilst I’m at Uni! So it was fitting that he popped the question on the day of my grad!

The process.

It was overwhelming at first, then there was a period where I felt organised and in control of it all. Brendan proposed in April 2018 and we got married November 2019, thank goodness we had plenty of time to sort it all out!

Style inspiration.

I wanted a classic, but modern wedding and my main inspiration were your classic American wedding movies, where they have their weddings at some grand beautiful house and the ceremony is in the stunning manicured gardens.

The dress.

So I only had one picture of a dress that I had seen on Instagram that I liked – I’m not into beading or lace details, I wanted something bold that would stand out as a whole rather than have to look closely for details. I would describe my looks as the same as my wedding, classic, with a modern twist! I had a thigh-high split, with a classic pump and stunning gold and pearl drop earrings from a.b.ellie, they were my touch of modern. I tried on a couple of dressed at one place, then went straight to Luci, from Luci Di Bella, showed her my inspiration picture and said, can you make me something like this? She whisked me into her studio and before you know it, we were all on the same page and had such a great experience. It does help knowing exactly what you want too!

Favourite moments.

My favourite moment was walking down the aisle and seeing Brendan for the first time that day and then realising that the sun had come out for us as it was forecasted to rain the entire day! (Not a drop came down!).

Meaning of marriage.

Brendan and I completed a marriage education course months prior to getting married and we came out of it stronger and more aligned – we both agree that marriage is a partnership that needs love, attention and communication in all aspects.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Higher Love – played live.

Reception entry: I think the band played Signed, Sealed, Delivered when we walked in. We love our band so much and trusted them, that we said, ‘play whatever you want!’.

First dance: There’s no way by Lauv feat. Julia Michaels.

Funny stories (or near disasters).

The most nerve-wrecking thing is the weather in Melbourne – we had an outdoor ceremony and if it rained, it just wouldn’t have been the same! That was the only thing I panicked about!

Other than that, my freeze-dried rose petals didn’t arrive, but my florist stepped in, the day before and sorted that all out for us! What a legend!

Planning surprises.

I have planned many events and no one ever has to know what you are planning on doing, they just turn up! But with planning a wedding, families are involved and want to know what is going on – so it was an adjustment to Brendan and I to explain what we have planned – it was hard explaining at time when nothing was being done!

Words of wisdom.

So much!

  1. Plan, Plan, Plan! Every day there will be an email sent, just get used to it! Ha!
  2. Lists – Create lists for your photography, your bump-in/out items as well as delegate family and friends who will be taking them home after the wedding
  3. Morning schedule – create a schedule and send it to your hair and makeup artists as well as your bridesmaids
  4. Make sure you either inform your suppliers when there is a crossover or get your suppliers to speak to each other
  5. Create a contact page list – make sure that all your suppliers have one, so if there are any issues on the day, they can contact that supplier straight away – and sort it out before you even know about it!
  6. ENJOY! Don’t be that relaxed bride (or groom) leading up to the event thinking everything will sort itself out, it wont. Plan the hell out of your day, so when the day comes, you are free from anything and absolutely enjoy every second of it!
