Real Wedding – George & Georgia, Portsea VIC
For teenage sweethearts George and Georgia, their wedding was a celebration big on feels, aesthetics, and vibe. For Georgia, who loves to host family and friends for meals, it was important that their celebration give just that—elevated dinner party chic.
An A+ team of vendors perfectly realised their brief. Honesty Flora created stunningly nontraditional floral installations in unexpected shapes and textures, artfully arranged to gorgeous visual effect. A rose-based palette of soft pinks, apple greens, and deep scarlet was boldly beautiful against the noir shades of the wedding party fits.
Georgia is breathtaking in a Jacquard fabric custom gown by the super-talent at Luci Di Bella. The fresh, timeless silhouette allows the statement pressed detailing of the fabric to bring an ultra-modern feel while retaining classic grace. We love the bow hairpiece, a perfect nod to elegant nostalgia.
With music legends Hey Jack at the helm, the soundtrack to the day brought all the epic feels—ending with an epic dance floor dance party. See every emotion-packed moment through the lens of David Muir Photography.
The meeting.
We met at 14, very young! We were sweethearts at the local Hockey team. We’ve had a few false starts at this relationship, long distance and the like but we both have always known we would make it work.
The ‘one’.
At around age 21 we had this day on a small wooden boat, and I just felt so at ease in his company. Years later, we both realised it was the same moment.
The proposal.
Georgia is hard to surprise, George had prepped her by saying a proposal wasn’t happening anytime soon. We went on a romantic and much anticipated trip to Ningaloo reef at Sal Salis. Georgia had wanted to see the whalesharks for years, and that day they saw them on the trip. George popped the question that evening, at sunset, in the ocean on a kayak behind the breaking waves.
Planning process.
We got engaged at the end of August and then Georgia went on a long holiday with her Mum. As soon as we returned in October we started planning for our February wedding. The caterer was available and the date just felt right! It was a tight turn around but everything fell into place so easily. We trusted our vendors and leant into the process.
Style inspiration.
Georgia loves an intimate dinner party, and that was the brief to every vendor. We wanted the wedding to feel like we were hosting our friends and family for dinner at home or at a cosy restaurant. A candlelit meal, shared food and non-traditional flowers were key requirements – the opulent style just fit seamlessly with that brief.
Georgia – I really enjoyed seeing real weddings on Instagram, finding vendors that fit my style and then even if they were booked or in a different state or country, seeing what was going on at the weddings they were a part of. This was really relevant for photographers and florists, I frequently found the weddings that they were involved with would all very much resonate with me.
The ceremony.
We asked a friend of ours to marry us, he’s a self-proclaimed “dyslexic electrician that loves love” . It’s so special to have someone who is a part of our lives to marry us. Alex lived up to his personal description and put a 9 instead of a 6 on our wedding certificate! Now it looks like we got married on the 19th of Feb!
We also had our dog at the wedding, when we officially tied the knot and everyone cheered it was like he knew and barked along joyfully with the crowd.
The outfits.
I fell in love with the french Jacquard fabric the second I saw it – the dress just had to be made out of that. My wedding dress felt old-world and elegant. I worked closely with the team at Luci Di Bella to design the dress for my body and to do justice to the gorgeous fabric.
Favourite moment.
We both have the same moment, pausing from our meals and looking around to all the tables of friends and family. Hearing everyone laughing, talking over shared food and getting along. It was the most special feeling.
Meaning of marriage.
Marriage means a commitment to our friendship, it means being a team and above all it means we are family.
Wedding soundtrack.
Aisle: I Get To Love You by Ruelle
Signing: Heaven by Bryan Adams
Reception entry: Signed Sealed Delivered by Stevie Wonder
First dance: LOVE by Nat King Cole
Funny stories (or near disasters).
We had actually planned to get married under the Sheoak trees on the golf course at the boundary, but it ended up being really difficult to organise. I was so disappointed as I had imagined all the special moments with that backdrop.
I jokingly suggested that we get married in the carpark in front of the house. Which usually has four cars and a trailer in it. Somehow we got creative and it ended up being a perfect place to get married.
Planning surprises.
How fun it was to style and bring all the elements together, I really enjoyed collecting all the vintage silverware and candelabras for our wedding. It was a fun creative outlet.
Words of wisdom.
You don’t need 18 months! The more time, the more choice, the more choice, the easier it is to question everything! Go for a timeline that suits you.
