Real Wedding – Jane & Jake, Melbourne VIC

High on Jane and Jake’s list of wedding day priorities was that they pulled together a celebration that felt authentic to them as a couple, and a seamless experience for their guests. Following a heartfelt church service, the group then descended upon Melbourne’s gorgeous Grand Hyatt, where all the darling details shone through.

Combined with an effortlessly glamorous gown, Jane’s statement bow was a showstopper and all the special touches, right through to a gorgeous bow-clad cake that deserves a moment of it’s own – were the perfect addition to their dream day, that ended with a jam-packed dance floor and everlasting memories of their sweet love.

There to document the romance and fun of it all, was a favourite of ours, the inimitable Sash of Collections Photography.

The meeting.

What feels like a long time ago, when we were teenagers. Jake was friends with my cousins.

The proposal.

On our 8th Anniversary, I (Jane) had organised to go to Point Leo Estate for lunch and to stay at RACV Cape Schanck for the night as something special to do following the 2020 lock downs. Jake decided this would be the time to propose and did so after our amazing lunch at Point Leo. It was a complete surprise for me.

Planning process.

I loved planning our wedding, I think mostly due to having a sister-in-law who is a wedding planner (Steph – Staple Creative!) So having her to be able to ask questions and guide me was the biggest help and made the process so much less daunting.

We had to postpone from October 2021 to January 2022 due to Covid – this was the hardest part of our planning process, however, was worth the wait in the end.

Style inspiration.

We wanted a wedding that reflected us, was ‘easy’ for our guests and lots of fun! Inspiration came from things that we love and love doing, so the day reflected us as a couple.

The ceremony.

We had a first look, which we loved as we were able to calm our nerves and really enjoy the ceremony. We had our ceremony at St Michael’s Uniting Church. It was short and sweet, and we were able to tailor the ceremony to reflect us as a couple. Being able to have our family and friends around and be with the people we love (especially following the two years we had had prior) was what made it most special to me. We were then able to walk across the road (literally – via the traffic lights) to our reception venue at the Grand Hyatt. With most of our guests staying at the Grand Hyatt as well – this is what made it so ‘easy’ for our guests.

Favourite moment.

I loved when the formalities were over, following dinner, being able to dance to the live music by the amazing band (Baker Boys) with all our guests and take it all in.

Meaning of marriage.

Being able to spend the rest of our lives together, create more memories and continue to grow our family.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle – Canon in D Major.

Reception Entry – Still Falling For You by Elle Goulding.

First Dance – Make You Feel My Love by Adele.
