Real Wedding – Jess & Isaac, Warrnambool VIC

When you look at some of the breathtaking scenery from Isaac and Jess’s wedding, you really can’t help but swoon. The soft, sandy hues against baby blue skies with juxtaposed rocky formations highlights the natural and relaxed vibe they wanted their day to reflect.

Surrounded by their nearest and dearest, the day was everything they could’ve hoped for. A palette of natural and dried florals by Jess’s favourite florist, Annie at the Refined Bloom Co perfectly flowed into their boho/barn aesthetic. The ceremony performed by Isaac’s Mum gave way to all the feels and was just the appetiser to what was to follow with killer speeches and an even groovier dance floor.

Sheree Dubois captured all those beaming smiles and immaculate portraits beautifully, so much so that we want some framed and hung, straight to the pool room.

The meeting.

Isaac and I had always shared mutual friends and officially met in 2012 at our bridesman’s house.

The ‘one’.

When we went on our first overseas trip to Thailand together, we knew that we wanted to travel together for the rest of our lives.

The proposal.

We were in a COVID lockdown and I had arrived home from work to see bouquets of flowers scattered over the floor, our favourite songs playing, and a slideshow of our memories playing on the TV. Isaac had a speech prepared which he read before popping the question. It was magical and just perfect for us.

Planning process.

We got engaged during COVID 2020 and thought we would definitely be safe to schedule a wedding in January 2022 – luckily for us, we made it to our date without a hitch! So I began the wedding planning process by researching various venues across the South West Vic region as well as researching various budget estimates. Isaac created our budget spreadsheet and I started gathering various quotes from venues and suppliers. Isaac and I decided on a wedding in our hometown of Warrnambool and chose a favourite brunch spot of ours – The Pavilion. We were living in Ballarat at the time and we booked my favourite florist, Annie at the Refined Bloom Co, for our wedding. I used Pinterest to gather inspiration for the wedding and gradually bought items online to be used as wedding décor. I became somewhat too relaxed throughout the planning process and booked a number of suppliers last minute. We had the motto “as long as everyone is having fun, we don’t care” and this helped us not to sweat the small stuff.

Style inspiration.

Isaac and I wanted our wedding to reflect our relaxed personalities. We used Pinterest for inspiration and styled our wedding ourselves, with the help of our beautiful family and florist.

I found the supplier directories and real wedding inspiration the most helpful when viewing wedding blogs.

The ceremony.

Our ceremony felt like a dream. A really special part of our ceremony was having Isaac’s Mum as our celebrant. Our ceremony involved our dearest family and friends including having all of Isaac’s siblings in our wedding party as well as our precious dog, Zeus.

The outfit.

I searched many bridal website’s gathering inspiration to show my bridesmaids and had trouble finding a dress I was in love with. I ended up actually choosing my wedding dress while I was scrolling through Instagram at the hairdressers and saw that Made With Love were having a sample sale – I bought my vintage Joey dress as soon as I got home and double checked my measurements. A local dressmaker, Lorraine Poehler, fitted my Made With Love ‘Joey’ dress and also hand-made my dream reception slip dress for me last minute from my vague inspiration photos. For the bridesmaids’ dresses, I loved the Shona Joy slip dresses and always knew that I would use these in my wedding. I found inspiration for the groomsmen’s suits on Pinterest.

Favourite moments.

Our favourite moment of the day was the ceremony, particularly our vows. The ceremony is closely followed by the speeches and dancefloor!

Meaning of marriage.

J: To me, marriage means having someone to support you through the up’s and down’s as you grow through life together, always putting love and laughter first.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle entry & first dance: I knew this would be love by Imaginary Future

Aisle exit: You’ve got the love by Florence & the Machine

Reception entry: Crazy in love by Beyonce & Jay Z

Words of wisdom.

Don’t sweat the small stuff! No one will notice but you. Also, stick to your guns and do what makes you and your fiancé happy. Take in every moment because the day goes quick.
