Real Wedding – Jessica & Jaidan, Daylesford VIC

Jess and Jaiden’s low key love celebration was a sun-drenched day of glowing smiles and relaxed, rustic elegance.

After cancelling plans to wed at a villa in Tuscany, Daylesford’s Lakehouse was the perfect setting to restage the celebrations, with the focus being minimal fuss but full of feels.

Tuscan Summer-inspired long wooden tables laden with vibrant blooms in vivid pinks and soft ambers, framed with lashings of deep greenery reminiscent of Italian alfresco courtyards, bathed in soft sunlight.

Gorgeous bride Jess never imaged herself in a wedding dress, yet found the perfect white wonder in her gown by Khya. Wrapped in the softest lace contrasting with crisp contemporary lines, she was a vision of modern-day style.

We love the incredible smiles on both Jess and Jaiden’s faces, and the emotion overflowing from every shot, captured with true artistry by I Got You Babe photography.

The meeting.

We met at university in a physics lab. On day one, we were asked to pick lab partners, and we naturally gravitated towards each other. We found out we lived in the same suburb and started carpooling together.

The ‘one’.

We very quickly started referring to each other as best friend and were probably in denial for a good year before we admitted our feelings for one another.

The proposal.

On a trip to Japan, Jaidan had organised a photographer to capture the moment he proposed on a rowboat under the cherry blossoms. When we arrived at the park, it started raining, and the rowboats were closed. When the photographer arrived, he played it down as a surprise just to get some nice photos of us, as I’d always wanted to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom. While we walked around the park we found a huge tree and stopped under it, then Jaidan proposed to me!

Planning process.

The original plan was 20 of us going to a villa in Tuscany for the week – until Covid hit, cancelling our European summer.

We then looked for the next best thing and after a lunch at the Lake House fell in love with the food and surroundings. I wanted to keep it very low fuss as we had already planned an entire wedding and I had to start from scratch again! We then had our second date postponed due to Covid, so by the end, it really put into perspective what matters.

Style inspiration.

Tuscan summer.

The outfit.

I never dreamed of a wedding dress – I didn’t feel it was my style. However, after one visit to Khya (formerly One Day Bridal), I found my perfect Tuscan dress.

Favourite moments.

Our first dance to our favourite Mumford and Sons song Lover of the Light, performed acoustically by tobi tobi. The dance was very raw and unplanned, but the music just about made me breakdown crying; it was so perfect.

Meaning of marriage.

After being together for nine years it just gives us a huge feeling of pride to be able to call each other husband and wife.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: I Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley (played by tobi tobi)

First dance: Lover of the Light by Mumford and Sons (played by tobi tobi)

Really having tobi tobi playing made the day so special.

Funny stories or near disasters.

After our second wedding cancellation due to Covid, we decided to start trying for a family, as that’s what we really wanted. As soon as we fell pregnant, all restrictions were lifted, and we had a wedding booked – 16 weeks away! Luckily, I still made it into my dress, and I really love that you can see my little bump in all the photos.

Words of wisdom.

Make sure the day is exactly what you want. We always wanted an intimate wedding, and we are so happy we did.

We didn’t get a videographer because it was such a little wedding and I knew the photographer would get all the shots I needed- however if you are spending money on a band/ live music make sure you do because I only realised after I don’t get to listen back to the beautiful music played!
