Real Wedding – Katia & Daniel, Fitzroy VIC

Katia and Daniel became engaged on a private beach in Mykonos before planning their big day from London, where they were based.

While some brides and grooms may have found this difficult, Katia and Daniel took it in their stride and ensured they booked their trusted Tribe through recommendations from friends.

The day ran seamlessly and Katia wowed in her Mariana Hardwick gown. Using bright coloured flowers to pop against their bridal party dressed in black and white, the styling was simple but sublime.

Barely wiping the smile from their faces, Katia and Daniel soaked up the entire day, feeling an overwhelming sense of love that is beautifully captured by Tribe talent Courtney Laura.

In Katia’s words…

The meeting.

We met through my older brother Andrew. Daniel and Andrew played together at the Coburg Football Club at the time.

The ‘one’.

Not too long into our relationship, Daniel got a work opportunity in London. I knew he was serious about me and thought I was “the one” when he asked me to go with him. And I knew he was “the one” when I packed my bags, left my job, friends and family behind to go with him.

The proposal.

We were in Mykonos on a private beach.

Planning process.

Initially planning was a little tricky as we had to book all the big suppliers from London. We took a gamble with many of them as we hadn’t been able to meet in person but tried to go off recommendations from friends where we could. This wasn’t a bad thing though as it meant we couldn’t meet with lots of different suppliers, compare and get confused. It simplified things really. And then once we moved back to Melbourne, everything was booked so the planning from there was quite easy.

Style inspiration.

We wanted the wedding to be fun and relaxed. I knew I wanted bright coloured flowers to pop against the black and white outfits that the bridal party wore.

The dress.

I went to Mariana Hardwick first because my sister-in-law got her wedding dress from there. I knew I wanted a split in the dress but that’s about it. The dress I chose was the fourth one I tried on and loved it. After that I went to two other stores and tried on only a few more dresses at each, but nothing compared. That’s how I knew, so I didn’t bother to keep hunting. I was so happy with the dress on the day and it was extremely light and easy to wear!

Favourite moment.

It’s hard to pick one – the whole day from start to finish was amazing! We just loved seeing all our favourite people in one place, there to celebrate our relationship. Everyone was so happy for us, which was just lovely and everywhere we looked people were having fun. It was exactly what we wanted!

Meaning of marriage.

It means always having a person – a partner for life. It’s someone who forever you will laugh with, create memories with, share things with and tackle whatever comes your way with. In terms of our relationship, not much will change day to day. But for us marriage is the ultimate commitment to continue doing every day together because we want to.
