Real Wedding – Lachlan & Brytne, Teven NSW

When the dress code is island vibes with a disco flair, the views looking over the lush Byron Bay hinterlands, and the day is packed with moments of genuine personality, the overall impact is bound to be unforgettable.

Lachlan and Brytne, who first bonded over their synchronisation in values and dreams, created a celebration that felt perfectly them, gave joyously uplifting feelings, and looked like an elegant tropical fiesta.

Brytne’s family is from PNG, so incorporating their love of disco disco was a non-negotiable. Needless to say, the dance floor was exuberant and unbridled, and we can’t get enough.

Captured through the artful lens of Lili and Pearl, this is one uplifting feast for the senses – scroll on to enjoy it all.

The meeting.

We are firefighters and met each other at work. We were both on the same shift, and slowly we got to know each other and fell in love.

The one.

We would have extensive conversations until all hours of the morning, about what our dream lives looked like, and everything we each said aligned perfectly. We instantly knew.

The proposal.

Lachlan took me away for a long weekend to Kingscliff, NSW. I thought it was meant to be just a small romantic getaway because we had an extremely stressful start to the year, but little did I know he was popping the question.

Style inspiration.

My family is from PNG, and we love to disco disco, so an Islander meets disco disco just made sense. Lots of bright colours, mixed with culture, and must-have disco balls.

To find inspiration, Pinterest was extremely helpful, and I have my own unique style and vision that I wanted to convey on the day.

The ceremony.

The ceremony was so special. Not only did we get married under the most magical fig tree (very significant to us as we met in Newcastle and they have heaps of fig trees), but we had all our amazing family, perfect weather and the best vibe. Super loud, fun and positive.

The outfits.

Well, I wanted the guest dress code to be island vibes with a disco flair, and for Lachlan, he wanted something timeless and wanted to match me (he always wants to match me). I wanted something comfortable and sleek, timeless and something that complemented me. We had made all the shell leis for all the guests and made a grand one for Lachlan and myself.

Favourite moments.

Lachlan’s favourite part of the day was watching my sisters and I do traditional PNG dances for him, and my favourite part was everyone’s speeches and Lachlan’s vows.

Meaning of marriage.

Marriage to us is forever; it means that this is the person that our lives revolve around. I always say that Lachlan is my true north. We can both rely on each other, always support each other, and grow through life.

Wedding soundtrack.

Flower man’s entry: Let’s Hear It For The Boys

Aisle: Is This Love by Bob Marley (acoustic version)

First dance: Every Night, Every Morning by Maoli

Funny stories (or near disasters).

Not really, we both worked extremely well as a team and it was not stressful at all.

Planning surprises.

For Lachlan, it was the surprise island dances we did for him, and mine was that he sent me a card to read before the ceremony that was extremely special.

Words of wisdom.

Work together. If things feel like they are getting too stressful, or you can see them becoming too stressful, ask for help. Lean on each other for advice and always be involved together.
