Real Wedding – Lisa & Matthew, Yarra Junction VIC

From the morning preparations to the cracking dance floor, Lisa and Matt’s celebrations are a vision of relaxed, joy-filled, fun and effortless style. Choosing to party in one of their favourite places, Bulong Estate, meant the fun and frivolities unfolded in aesthetic perfection against a classic Victorian countryside setting.

Choosing a palette to enhance the bushland vista, Lisa and Matt’s wedding party looked chic in sage greens and soft taupe, with timeless florals in shades of vanilla and pops of cotton candy. Lisa struck the perfect balance of ultra-cool modern bride, and classic elegance, in her stunning sheath by Laure de Sagazan via Carte Blanche bridal. We especially love her choice to add a gossamer wrap top to elevate the look. And honestly, who doesn’t love a bride who switches to her Birkenstocks the first chance she gets?

Easy-going elegance is breathtakingly present in every shot by photographer Nikki McCrone. The images of the newlyweds taking a moment together bathed in golden sunset are truly a vision to wow.

No party would be complete without a DJ who knows how to work a crowd, and Melbourne Entertainment Co provided the best in the biz to get the dance floor heaving as the sun set on a truly epic event.

The meeting.

L: We met at a nightclub back in 2011. Matt’s friend was chatting up the friend I was there with so I had no one to talk to! Matt bought me a vodka raspberry and I was sold.

The ‘one’.

M: There wasn’t one particular moment but she just generally makes me happy and makes me a better person, plus, she puts up with me!

The proposal.

L: The first night of our summer getaway, Matt planned an evening of my favourite thing – fish and chips on the beach with our dog. Unfortunately the weather was terrible and the dog was being a terror but it was still perfect.

Planning process.

The day after we got engaged my sister sent a huge excel spreadsheet of everything we needed to organise for a wedding (scary but amazing). We planned the big things early on and then left everything else until the last minute (oops).

Style inspiration.

We both love our wines and wineries. This was an easy decision for us as it is rare that you can get married at somewhere you would go every weekend if you could.

L: Articles on specific suppliers were really helpful and usually helped me keep to our budget. I liked to find out how much things were going to cost before I let myself started dreaming about them as it’s so easy to get carried away.

The ceremony.

L: It was no fuss and a bit of fun which set the tone for the rest of the evening.

The look.

L: I wanted simple and elegant and had come across Carte Blanche bridal when my sister was getting married a couple of years before. I saw a dress online and Anastasia requested it for the show and when I tried it on, I loved it! Such an easy process. The jacket/top I came across on Instagram and loved the fun twist it gave to the classic dress.

M: We landed on the colour of the suit jackets by accident. The original colour was sold out and this was the next closest, I actually prefer the final colour so it all worked out well.

Favourite moments.

L: It’s a toss up between having a boogie to the DJ/sax and spending some time alone with Matt during the wedding pics. It’s such a busy day, it was nice to have some time together (plus Nikki is a legend).

Meaning of marriage.

M: A statement of love and a commitment to continue to support each other while growing as a couple together.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Exactly How You Are by Ball Park Music

First Dance: I’m With You by Vance Joy

Funny stories or near disasters.

M: A groomsmen’s dog peed on my clothes the night before the wedding. Thankfully not the suit and other wedding essentials, though was very close.

Planning surprises.

L: How far in advance everything needs to be booked!!

Words of wisdom.

M: The day is short and unfortunately you can’t make it longer. Have a moment to take it in and spend time with each other.
