Real Wedding – Melissa & Jimmy, Red Hill VIC

Romantic Red Hill was the perfect location for Melissa and Jimmy to exchange their vows in a relaxed and intimate celebration of their love.

Keeping the day simple and elegant, they made sure their celebration epitomised who they are as a couple and family, putting a lot of effort into selecting wedding suppliers they felt truly connected with.

What resulted was an incredible celebration of not only them, but also their nearest and dearest and they made sure they partied into the night.

White Vine Photography were at the helm and not only are they responsible for these exquisite shots, but they also managed to create a space for Melissa and Jimmy to have some private time with their young son which turned out to be their favourite moment of the day.

In Melissa’s words…

The meeting.

We met at a mutual friend’s 30th in Geelong in 2011. Mel had only moved back to Melbourne from London three days prior.

The one.

We were smitten with each other straight away and a year after meeting, moved up to Darwin together for Jimmy’s work, where we lived for almost six years.

The proposal.

We got engaged in 2016 in Darwin, at the beautiful Nightcliff Foreshore. It was a Friday night and we were relaxing having a few wines and nibbles while watching the sunset. We were chatting and I didn’t suspect anything… then all of a sudden Jimmy proposed and I was so shocked and excited! We then rang our families, ate pizza and then went home to drink Dom Perignon and swim in the pool with our dogs!

Planning process.

Although we got engaged in 2016, we didn’t start planning the wedding until late 2018 after we’d moved back to Victoria. We only gave ourselves six months to plan the wedding, Jimmy had also just started his own business and Mel returned to work six weeks prior to the wedding, plus we have a young son, so it was a very busy time!

Style inspiration.

We wanted our wedding to be simple and elegant, yet relaxed and fun – a big party with all of our nearest and dearest. It was important to us that our wedding day reflected who we are as a couple and we put a lot of effort into finding the perfect suppliers who we felt we most connected with.

The outfit.

I thought it would take ages to find the dress, but it was actually only the second dress I tried on! I loved the simple elegance of it. Given we were having a winter wedding I wanted a dress with sleeves, so I purchased extra fabric and Raffaele Ciuca’s bridal alterations department added sleeves to the dress for me. They were great to deal with and tailored the dress to exactly how I wanted it. I’m so sad I can’t wear it again!

Favourite moment.

There were many, however there was a short while after the ceremony and before the reception when it was just Jimmy, Mel and Jack (our son) in The Epicurean’s private dining room. Dan and Alexandra (White Vine Photography) were taking some pictures but we hardly knew they were there. It was lovely for just the three of us to be together for a few quiet moments to chat and reflect on the day so far. We were so happy and excited.

Meaning of marriage.

Love, support and laughter.

Wedding soundtrack.
Aisle: Higher Love by James Vincent McMorrow
Signing song: Forgotten Love by Aurora
Reception entry: Route 94 by My Love ft. Jess Glynne

Planning surprises.

Even though we knew it would be a lot of work, we were probably a little surprised at just how much time it all took!

Words of wisdom.

Choose suppliers who you connect and feel comfortable with. Another thing is that everyone says that the day goes so quickly but you don’t realise quite how much it flies until it’s your day… and then it’s all over! We didn’t want the night to end and if we could do it again, we would have had our reception end an hour or two later. We also had recovery drinks the next day which we really enjoyed as it enabled us to catch up properly with many of our guests.

Byron Bay sure is a beautiful place to be wed, and Tristan and Lauren did it in total style. Be sure to check this beauty out!
