Real Wedding – Tristan & Lauren, Byron Bay NSW

Lauren and Tristan celebrated their wedding day in a simple and stylish ceremony and reception, just outside of Byron Bay. This cool couple did things their own way, kicking certain traditions to the curb and focusing on what mattered most to them. They even made sure their darling doggo didn’t miss out on all the fun!

With the help of some of Byron Bay’s best wedding vendors, Lauren and Tristan brought their dream day vision to life; a relaxed, fun-filled affair with sentimental touches and plenty of dancing!

In Lauren’s words…

The meeting.

We met when we were 18, at a house party, after maybe a few too many. He asked who he thought was ‘me’ at the end of the night “are we best friends now?” until he realised he was speaking to my sister. (We both have a feeling we had met before this night but obviously it wasn’t that memorable).

The ‘one’.

I don’t think there was a particular moment, but I think you know it’s the real deal when no matter what, even through the lowest of lows, your love for that person is unconditional.

The proposal.

It happened on top of a Headland Reserve in the northern beaches of NSW, the weekend of a mates wedding. I was under the impression we were going to a park for a big BBQ. The empty car park, cliff face and the fact he was wearing a button-down shirt to a BBQ should probably have given it away, but I was completely oblivious until the moment he got down on one knee.

The planning.

Events management is a large part of my job, so the majority of the planning process came very naturally and wasn’t stressful at all. It was only two weeks prior to the wedding that the logistics of having a destination wedding started to get overwhelming.

Style inspiration.

Minimal, neutral and modern.

The dress.

To appease certain family members *cough* mum *cough* I tried on a lot of typical wedding dresses, full length, lace, bedazzled and as expected none of them felt like me. I stumbled across my dress and was obsessed from the moment I zipped it up.

Favourite moments.

Dancing with everyone, I don’t think I left the dance floor from the moment the music started until the moment it ended.

The meaning of marriage.

The bible tells us to “clothe ourselves with love for it‘s a perfect bond of union” and to me, marriage is a partnership and a lifelong commitment to tackle life together set on a foundation of deep love and respect for one another.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Now We Are One (instrumental) – unknown

Signing: The Beautiful Girls by Dela

First dance: Crazy Love by Juke Ross

Final song: Praise You by Fatboy Slim

Any funny stories (or near disasters).

Not so much near disasters as a multitude of first world problems that all decide to eventuate the week of the wedding. The diamond in my engagement ring came loose, Tristan lost (and then found) his suit jacket the day he was supposed to leave for Byron, his wedding band we ordered a month prior didn’t turn up in time and it forecast to rain the entire weekend. All the locals had said they hadn’t seen rain in months! But Trist was there, at the end of the aisle, with a massive smile on his face. So none of that mattered, not even a little bit.

Planning surprises.

I thought it would be more stressful and less enjoyable than it was.

Words of wisdom.

Don’t get bogged down by tradition. If you don’t like wedding cakes, don’t have one. If,  like me, the bonbonniere/favour you get from other people’s weddings ends up in the fruit bowl in your pantry, give it a hard pass. And most importantly if you have a dog, bring him/her to the wedding, because, derr!
