Real Wedding – Milly & Travis, St Kilda VIC

A sweet summer soiree equally interspersed with stunning style and feel-good vibes summed up Milly and Travis’ dream day. Coordinating a wedding from across the globe didn’t come without challenges, but for these two sweethearts, celebrating with their nearest and dearest by the beach in Melbourne made it more than worth it.

While the day was scorching, in true Victorian summer style, Travis and Milly kept their cool, radiating blissed-out vibes as the day unfolded. Milly looked every bit a modern princess in a strapless, all-over lace detailed gown, with an elegantly simple up-do. Travis chose a sleek navy suit with a tie in a soft sand tone to incorporate the summer’s day feel. Florals in hues of muted blush and sweet taupe finish the overall effect to perfection.

We love the first look and portrait session by Liz Barnes Photography, shot amongst the treescape and St Kilda backstreets, giving all effervescent energy and chic modern aesthetics. And as the couple returned, the party vibes escalated while they danced the night away.

The meeting.

We met on Hinge in New York City in August 2019. Our first date was at a cocktail bar in the East Village called Mace.

The one.

Probably when we lived in a tiny 1-bedroom apartment in Manhattan for the Covid-19 lockdown!

The proposal.

We were on a hike with our dog, Tony in the Hudson River Valley. It was a beautiful autumn day, and the sun was shining when Travis got down on one knee!

Planning process.

We decided to plan the wedding ourselves without a wedding planner. Living in Austin, Texas and planning a wedding in Melbourne definitely had its difficulties! We only had a small window of overlapping time with Melbourne to coordinate and plan with our vendors. We are very glad we don’t have to plan another wedding, that’s for sure!

Style inspiration.

A happy summer wedding!

The ceremony.

Our close family friend, Julie Kowalski (Blue Haze Ceremonies), married us. This was extra special because I have known her my whole life, and she is like family. She sang at my parents’ wedding too! We also wrote our own vows, which was very special, although I’m not sure people could understand what I was saying through my sobbing.

The outfits.

Travis wore a custom suit from Suit Supply which was the first place he looked. He was fitted on a trip to New York City last year. My dress was from Pronovias and was one of the first dresses I tried on. It wasn’t the dress I thought I would want, but it was so comfortable, and I loved how it sparkled at night.

Favourite moment.

Dancing with friends and family! Oh, and marrying the love of my life!

Meaning of marriage.

To us, marriage is about making a public and personal commitment. It’s about becoming a team, supporting each other, challenging each other, and entering into a partnership for life.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Texas Sun (Instrumental) by Khruangbin and Leon Bridges

Reception entry: You Shook Me All Night Long by ACDC,

First dance: I’d Be Waiting by Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats

Mother/Son & Father/Daughter dance: Crazy Love by Van Morrison

Funny stories (or near disasters).

It was 36 degrees on our wedding day after a week of beautiful weather…but it turned out fine. It just made for a sweaty dance floor.

Planning surprises.

Finding out how expensive flowers are.

Words of wisdom.

It might seem stressful, and there is a never-ending list of things to do, but it will all be so worth it.

If there is one thing you cannot control on your wedding day, it is the weather. Here’s a little guide to help you deal with wedding weather mayhem.
