Real Wedding – Sallie & Luke, Collingwood VIC

So swept up in the magic of their wedding day, it wasn’t until their ceremony was taking place that Sallie and Luke realised they had forgotten their wedding bands!

It was simply a minor hiccup in what was an otherwise perfect party for a perfect pair, who decided early on that an urban wedding with an industrial vibe was right up their alley. Simple, elegant and all about their love and their loved ones – they nailed the brief entirely.

One of our favourite lens ladies, Elsa Campbell, was on hand to document Sallie and Luke’s dream day, and you can see it here in all its glory.

In Sallie’s words…

The meeting.

Luke and I met at The Richmond Club Hotel one random Friday night. I was out with a few girlfriends for a drink before going to a gig at The Corner Hotel.  Some poor random guy walked through the glass sliding door with a full tray of drinks, of course the drinks went flying and I couldn’t help but laugh a little.  Well, Luke saw the whole thing unfold and noticed I was laughing, so he took the opportunity to strike up a conversation.  The rest they say is history.

The ‘one’.

I wouldn’t say there was one defining moment, more a realisation that I felt totally comfortable and able to completely be honest with him very early on in the relationship.

The proposal.

Luke is from Portland Victoria and we were visiting friends and family for a long weekend.  We were on our way to dinner when we stopped in at Luke’s favorite beach, Whites Beach, to look at the surf break (I should have clued on at this point but didn’t). We were walking along the beach when I turned around and found Luke on bended knee.  I was totally shocked and taken by surprise to learn Luke had also arranged for a few of our friends to be hiding in the bushes taking photos and then running out with bottles of champagne to celebrate.  We all then stood around, toasting our glasses and watching the sun set. It was magical!

Planning process.

I was on maternity leave at the time so took advantage of not being at work and booked in the big things (venue, photographer and florist) roughly 12 months in advance, which left us plenty of time to plan the remainder. We decided on no bridal party, so our planning was solely based around Luke and I, so the decisions were made rather quickly.

Style inspiration.

We both agreed almost instantly that we wanted an urban/industrial style wedding that was simple and elegant.  So, we chose a few venues to go and look at, but only made it to the first one as we instantly fell in love with Rupert on Rupert.

The dress.

Like most brides, I booked in to see 5-6 different designers.  I went through the motions and tried on hundreds of dresses and even found what I thought was the perfect dress at One Day Bridal.  But when I went back in for the second time to try the dress on, I saw ‘my’ dress hanging up and just had to try it on.  It was instant, I fell in love and knew I had found ‘the one’.

Favourite moment.

That’s tough, but it would have to be the moment we realised that we forgot the rings! Luke and I decided to have photos taken prior to the ceremony around the back streets of Collingwood. We were so excited at the thought of getting married, that we walked straight past the car, where we had left the rings, and into Rupert on Rupert.  We were so caught up in the moment that neither remembered until we got to the part in the ceremony where the celebrant asked for the rings – we both burst out laughing!

Meaning of marriage.

Love, commitment and family. Doing everyday life together while sharing and creating amazing memories.

Wedding soundtrack.

Luke walked in with our son Beau (best man):  Daft Punk – Playing At My house

Sallie walked down the aisle:  Matthew Mole – Running After You

Entry into Reception & First Dance: Winston Surfshirt – Smile

Funny stories (or near disasters).

Besides the rings, no.  Everything exceeded my expectations.

Words of wisdom.

Very early on in the planning process, decide what’s most important to you – photography, food, DJ etc.  Then book these items in first. This ensures you have your ‘dream team’ working with you to coordinate your magical day.

Urban elegance – we’ll say yes to that! See how Ambar and Chris celebrated in city style too, just click here.

SALLY AND LUKE’S TRIBE

Ceremony  and reception venue: Rupert on Rupert (Mali – Wedding / Events Planner) – We could not speak more highly of Mali and the staff at Rupert on Rupert. They were so incredibly helpful in the lead up to the big day, and on the night our guests were blown away by the service that was provided. Food was incredible, and cocktails delicious!

Celebrant/Officiant: Jo-Anne Robinson, private family friend.

Hair and makeup: Marlene Olsson – Brides Melbourne. Marlene was fantastic, she kept everyone calm on the morning and I was SO HAPPY with her work.
