Real Wedding – Tasha & Jimmy, Collingwood VIC

Tasha and Jimmy’s urban chic wedding is infused with so much love and energy, we can practically feel it all emanating off the page. With good food, good music and good company at the forefront of planning their wedding, they decided to host it at Rupert on Rupert, whose eclectic charm speaks for itself. Amidst the greenery, their florals of deep reds, burgundy and whites popped, alongside Tasha’s one-of-a-kind, lace saree.

As for good music and good company, they couldn’t go past Aleks Mac from One More Song DJs, whose skill also extends to being a celebrant, whilst Cass from Blossom Daisy Creative, with her ability to capture the essence of a couple, caught a plethora of exquisite images of the evening.

A simple, sweet soiree that has our hearts.

The meeting.

We were friends for a long time before we started dating. We can’t actually remember where we met, but we assume it was at an 18th birthday or maybe a New Years Eve party at our groomsman’s house.

The ‘one’.

We started dating during the COVID haze, during one of the short periods we were allowed out and about. It was a bit of a surprise for both of us but felt right immediately. I think we both immediately knew it was the big one!

The proposal.

Jimmy popped the question in Apollo Bay during one of our regular trips. It was the day after the Great Ocean Road half marathon, so our legs were a bit tender, but Jimmy insisted on doing some ‘exploring’. The first location he found that had a gorgeous view of the bay was unfortunately foiled by a loud video blogger. We ended up down on a secluded cove and Tasha said yes before Jimmy even got the question out of his mouth.

Planning process.

Planning was so easy and so much more fun than we thought! Fortunately, we aligned on our priorities for a wedding (good food, good music and good company), which helped us with finding our vendors. Tasha is a spreadsheet queen, so keeping on top of bookings and budget was pretty easy.

Style inspiration.

Rupert on Rupert already has such an incredible atmosphere, so we didn’t really need to do too much more to have a beautiful wedding. Neither of us have a keen eye for décor, so we picked our colours and a few details and kept it fairly simple. We wanted the wedding to feel natural and fun.

Once we had chosen our venue, we found it really helpful to look at real weddings that had happened there to see what we liked or didn’t like about styling or dining options. It also helped us find vendors, which meant we could look at their portfolios and Instagrams to see if their style worked for us.

The ceremony.

We loved our ceremony so much. We had cocktails on arrival, so it felt fun immediately. Aleks Mac, our incredible celebrant (and DJ!) told our story like she had known us forever. There were lots of laughs and some tears, but it was so special.

The look.

Tasha wore a handmade saree for the ceremony, which was white silk with simple lace detail, much like a wedding dress. She changed into a Rachel Gilbert dress for the party, which was perfect for the occasion – beaded, sequined with plenty of stretch for dancing. Jimmy wanted to feel as handsome as possible, so went for a tuxedo.

Favourite moments.

It was all so perfect, we loved being on the dancefloor with our friends and family. However, we particularly enjoyed doing a first look and having a quick drink with our bridal party and family before the ceremony.

Meaning of marriage.

Having a wedding was just a nice opportunity to celebrate with the people closest to us. It didn’t change too much in our life, as we had already made a commitment to each other. Marriage (or a lifelong commitment) to us means having someone that will always have your back and you’ll always have theirs.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Don’t Wanna Let You Down by Josh Pyke

Reception entry: Bonkers by Dizzee Rascal

First Dance: May I Have This Dance by Francis and the Lights

Funny stories or near disasters.

Tasha’s saree blouse was made in India and only came back a few weeks before the wedding. Unfortunately it came back with pink stains on it and about five sizes too big! Tasha’s mum, Renuka, quickly whipped it over to her dressmaker in Brisbane who did God’s work by fixing it within a few days.

Planning surprises.

We were surprised at how easy it was. We had always heard that it was a tough slog and quite stressful, but I think us having similar priorities and being fairly decisive people helped!

Words of wisdom.

Work out what the most important parts of a wedding are to you – food, music, ceremony, numbers? You can then put your focus on those areas and maybe budget less for the other areas, rather than stressing about the whole thing.

We love hearing how looking at Real Weddings and what past couples have done has helped others in their own wedding planning process. So, for more inspiration, head to our blog with Real Weddings examples as far as the eye can read!

TASHA & JIMMY’S VENDORS

We first looked at Ivory Tribe, particularly the Real Weddings. This helped us see which vendors had worked with Rupert on Rupert previously. Rupert on Rupert also provided us with a preferred provider list, which helped us narrow down some options. Once we had a few options, we did a lot of Instagram stalking and contacted for availability.

Ceremony & Reception venue: Rupert on Rupert

Celebrant: Aleks Mac – We picked Aleks Mac as our DJ first, which was so important to us because we love a party. One More Song DJs has a great reputation (which she certainly lived up to!). We found out Aleks also worked as a celebrant so figured, why not. She exceeded expectations as a celebrant! Family commented that they had thought she was a friend of ours because the ceremony was so personal and intimate. Also, it meant that we really got to know Aleks before the day, so by the time she got on the decks, she already knew what kind of crowd she was working with.

Photography: Blossom Daisy Creative – Cass from Blossom Daisy was amazing; she made the time to meet with us and find out what we did and didn’t want out of the day. She seamlessly fit in and made us feel so comfortable, and really captured the day perfectly.

Florist: Raven and the Rose – Raven and the Rose perfectly nailed the brief – Tasha wishes she could’ve kept her bouquet forever.

Hair & Make-up: Amelia Mills – Tasha would 100% recommend Amelia for hair and makeup for any bride. She’s never had a good experience with getting hair and make-up professionally done, but Amelia listened to exactly what she wanted and did a stellar job, not only for the bride, but for Laura, the bridesmaid, and the bride and groom’s mums.

The dresses: Handmade saree, second dress Rachel Gilbert

Shoes: Forever Soles

Rings: Temple and Grace

Bridesmaid’s dresses: Shona Joy

Cake: Katie Lou Cakes

Entertainment: One More Song DJs – Aleks Mac
