Real Wedding – Taylor & Alexander, Collingwood VIC
A vision in shades of lush, rich ruby and hues of cherry, Alex and Taylor’s celebration is a captivating realisation of contemporary urban style with a nod to old school glamour.
From the gents in classic black to the girls in mismatched outfits of deep plum and soft scarlet in silk and velvet textures, this was one wedding party low on fuss and high on impact.
Choosing to draw on the edgy modern romance of their venue Rupert on Rupert as their styling inspiration created a seamless transition across each divine detail. Florals by Raven and the Rose echoed Rupert’s theming to perfection, bringing the effect to life with intense, textural beauty.
We love Taylor’s choice to switch up her look as the party kicked on, trading her gorgeous full skirts for a fabulous fluffy number by Helen Manuell Bridal, showing off her pearl-encrusted Jimmy Choos to perfection.
Dive into a day filled with aesthetic appeal and so much love; all captured through the artistry of superstar photographer Jeremy Blode.
The meeting.
We met at our best friend’s wedding in March 2017. I was a bridesmaid and Alex a friend of the groom.
The proposal.
Alex asked me to marry him in our living room on a random Thursday evening. It was a complete surprise.
Planning process.
We utilised real weddings online, as they are more relatable and give you achievable ideas and inspiration. Articles and information on suppliers were also really helpful.
We chose all our suppliers after asking for recommendations from friends and family. A few of our suppliers also provided recommendations, and that’s how we found our celebrant and make-up artist.
Style inspiration.
We chose to have our entire wedding at Rupert on Rupert because they have so much style of their own, everything you could need is already there, and our florist Ame took care of the rest.
The ceremony.
We wanted our ceremony to be light-hearted and relaxed. It was also important to be able to share the moment with our family and friends. Having our friend Mario play such an important part in the ceremony, taking us through our vows and exchanging of the rings, brought this all together.
Favourite moments.
All the little moments we got to spend together, just the two of us without distraction.
Wedding soundtrack.
Aisle: Kiss Me by Ed Sheeran
Reception entry: Latch ft Sam Smith by Disclosure
First dance: a cover of Tina Turner’s Simply the Best by Noah Reid
Funny stories or near disasters.
Our wedding date was changed three times, with the original wedding planned for 4 July 2020. We would not have made it through without the support and flexibility of all our amazing suppliers; we couldn’t recommend them highly enough.
Love the urban setting of Alex & Taylor’s gorgeous celebration? Estelle & Jessica also chose to go with an inner-city vibe, with similarly vibrant, show-stopping styling. To keep the inspiration flowing, check them out here.
TAYLOR & ALEX’S VENDORS
Ceremony & reception venue: Rupert on Rupert. Mali and the team at Rupert were a pleasure to work with. It is the most beautiful venue; the staff are super friendly and made sure that no one went hungry or was without a drink. They even found all our guest with special dietaries and made sure they had enough to eat.
Celebrant: Lara Williams was our official celebrant on the day, alongside our friend Mario. Lara completely embodied what we wanted our day to be; she made us feel instantly comfortable and like we had always been friends.
Photography: Jeremy Blode Photography. Jeremy and Rachel were a dream to work with and so supportive throughout the entire planning process, on the day and beyond. For someone who hates having photos taken, Jeremy made it as enjoyable as can be, and we now have amazing memories. We loved having him capture our day.
Florist: Raven & The Rose. Ame is truly amazing!! We discussed colours and showed her a few photos of inspiration (which was all her own work). We then left Ame to work her magic and were not disappointed; we have received so many compliments on the flowers and arrangements.
Hair: Styled by Kiki
Make-up: Ash Glamour Makeup
Both Kiki & Ash were so easy to work with; they are professional, easy-going and fun; it was a joy to spend the morning with them.
The dress & veil: Helen Manuell Bridal. I LOVED working with Helen; she made my wedding dress dreams come to life. Not only does she make the most beautiful dresses, but she makes suggestions and provides advice to make sure you look your very best on the day.
