A two-day itinerary doesn’t necessarily sound low key but, in reality, spreading their wedding celebrations over a weekend allowed Thea and Ryan to be authentically intentional.
An intimate crowd, a setting among nature and the steadying guidance of experienced celebrant Precious Celebrations made them feel incredibly at ease during their ‘I dos’.
The private, inner-city ceremony was followed by drinks and dinner, and when they woke as newlyweds the following day, the pair still had all the joy and excitement of a reception ahead of them, without the nerves of any intimidating formalities.
From the warehouse style venue to the florals brimming with Australian natives to the overall atmosphere of the occasion, Thea and Ryan’s wedding was real and relaxed.
Enjoy browsing every considered detail, as captured by the ever-talented Georgia Verrells, below.
We connected on Tinder in 2019.
For Thea, it was meeting Ryan’s family in Brisbane for the first time.
For Ryan, it was more gradual. It was more a level of comfort and realising he wanted to spend all his time with Thea.
Ryan wanted to include our dog and the house we started to make, so it happened on our back deck with our dog happily chasing flies. Just before a dinner organised to celebrate Thea finishing her university degree and a trip to Europe a couple of weeks later. This was planned to let Thea fully enjoy the holiday without the stress of where and when a proposal might happen!
We tried to work through the big items first, such as venue, photographer and celebrant. Shared Google Sheets became our saviour to stay on top of things.
We liked colours, but muted and natural with an Australian touch. A laidback warehouse style venue to fit with our more laidback nature. We wanted guests to feel relaxed and comfortable. Following our suppliers, Georgia Verrells (photographer) and Precious Celebrations (celebrant) on Instagram helped us work through the finer details.
We had only close family and friends to provide the intimate feeling we wanted. Our few nieces and nephews provided cute moments that we treasured, with the colourful setting in nature really helping us feel at ease.
Thea’s sister is an Australian women’s fashion designer, so they worked together to create a beautiful dress.
Ryan’s suit was a little bit easier as he already knew the style he wanted from research, so he just went to a store to try it on.
Our vows were the highlight.
Being with your favourite person.
All Wash Out – Magnetic Zeros
Can You Get To That – Funkadelic
Real Love Baby – Father John Misty
Guest’s requests (plus ones, music, their style guide, etc., not dietaries!).
Use a shared spreadsheet to stay on top of things – it’s always better to book things in earlier, in case the supplier you want isn’t available and you need plan B.
Also, putting the festivities over two days was the best choice we made. It allowed us to have a private ceremony with our nearest and dearest, then head to dinner and drinks at Longrain Melbourne to celebrate. We could then wake up and enjoy the next morning, taking it slowly before we had to start getting ready for some more photos and the reception. This meant we could relax and truly celebrate with everyone.
