Alex Motta describes his photographs as looking the way an Aperol Spritz feels on a warm summer’s day; vibrant, colourful, a little bit nostalgic. Born in Northern Italy near Lake Como with roots in Sicily, Alex moved to Australia as a boy and has spent the past 16 years building a wedding photography career that spans both countries. Every Melbourne winter, the Motta family returns to Sicily, and Alex documents weddings across Italy for the European season before coming home to shoot in Victoria from spring through autumn.
That dual life shapes his aesthetic. His images are bright and warm with rich, sun-drenched colour, paired with editorial black and whites that he describes as having “a classical editorial nostalgia — like a vintage Audrey Hepburn film.” He calls it modern yet timeless, and across 500+ weddings and 250+ five-star reviews, that description has held.
Alex’s base wedding package starts at eight hours, delivering 600+ individually edited images. Coverage hours are flexible and built around your run sheet. The turnaround is notably fast: preview images within 48 hours and your full gallery delivered within three weeks.
Beyond photography, Motta Weddings has grown into a full creative studio. Videography, content creation and film photography are all available as add-ons, along with custom wedding albums, portrait and family sessions, and an associate photographer option for couples who want the Motta aesthetic with more flexible availability.
Based in the Yarra Ranges, Alex photographs weddings across Melbourne, the Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula, regional Victoria, interstate and throughout Italy. Pricing is enquiry-based — contact Alex directly for the full guide.
“Alex is the ultimate wedding photographer, from the moment we saw Alex’s work we knew he was the vibe we wanted for our wedding. After speaking to Alex it only cemented that he would be the perfect choice for us.
Alex was the first vendor we locked in once we had picked our venue and he honestly helped us put everything into place. Alex was able to make suggestions for other vendors and give us ideas for the day so it could be the best it could be. Alex was so supportive of us not wanting to do the traditional elements but encouraged other ideas that we have.
For people who were nervous at the idea of being in front of the camera, there wasn’t a single feeling of that on our wedding day. Alex will give you perfect direction and can see things before they happen to get you the best shots possible. Alex turned around our incredible preview at an insane speed and we cannot wait to see the full album!
Don’t hesitate to book Alex in, he’s the best of the best for a reason and we feel so lucky that we had him to capture our wedding day for us!!”
