Alex Motta describes his photographs as looking the way an Aperol Spritz feels on a warm summer’s day; vibrant, colourful, a little bit nostalgic. Born in Northern Italy near Lake Como with roots in Sicily, Alex moved to Australia as a boy and has spent the past 16 years building a wedding photography career that spans both countries. Every Melbourne winter, the Motta family returns to Sicily, and Alex documents weddings across Italy for the European season before coming home to shoot in Victoria from spring through autumn.
That dual life shapes his aesthetic. His images are bright and warm with rich, sun-drenched colour, paired with editorial black and whites that he describes as having “a classical editorial nostalgia — like a vintage Audrey Hepburn film.” He calls it modern yet timeless, and across 500+ weddings and 250+ five-star reviews, that description has held.
