Mitchell Harris has such wow-factor when you step through the doors, what would you say is the overall vibe of Mitchell Harris as a venue?
Welcoming and relaxed, the building is 150 years old and filled with historical intrigue. From the exposed timber beam ceiling to the ornate blue stone walls.
Our function space “The Barrel Shed” is filled with an inviting warmth, featuring a wall of wine barrels, blue stone, and fairy lighting. Transform this beautiful space into to your ”perfect wedding” vision.
Share with us a little about the story of Mitchell Harris, it’s such an iconic venue, how did it come to be?
Mitchell Harris is a family owned business, a joint venture between The Mitchell’s and The Harris’.
Both families share a love of good food and wine, and having a wine maker of John’s calibre in the family certainly spurs this along!
Finding the historic gem of a building that has become the home of Mitchell Harris Wines was the perfect fit to showcase the Mitchell Harris food and beverage experience.
You have three unique spaces where couples can celebrate their day, can you describe each of them, along with the capacity and what style of wedding they might each suit?
Couples can book the entire Mitchell Harris Wine venue! Imagine entering into the Main Bar for pre ceremony cocktails, before moving up to the Seamstress Floor that is flooded with natural light where you say ‘I do’. Guests then descend the stairs to the Main Bar area where canapés and pre dinner drinks are served. The reception continues into the Barrel Shed with either your seated dinner or canapé style reception, with dancing and much celebrating takes place.
Alternatively your wedding reception can be hosted in the either the Seamstress Floor or Barrel Shed.
Seamstress Floor: Large windows give you views over Ballarat and ample natural light. Timber flooring along with white washed brick walls, make for the perfect backdrop. Add your own desired decorations to personalise the space – your ideal wedding reception. The Seamstress Floor is perfect for a more intimate reception. A seating capacity of 35 guests for a banquet dinner or 60 guests for a canapé reception. This space is equiped with a bar and in house speaker system ideal to play the handpicked playlist you have put together for your special day!
Barrel Shed: The perfect setting for a larger reception. With space for a DJ or band, the barrel wall providing a great back drop to the dance floor and memorable photos with friends. The blue stone and exposed brick wall creates a warm and inviting feel, accompanied with the delicate fairy lighting this space is truly unique, allowing you to add as little or as many decorations and flowers as you see fit. With a seating capacity for a banquet style dinner of up to 50 guests or canapé reception of 100 guests, these numbers ensure you still have plenty of room for dancing and celebrating.
Can you host your ceremony onsite? Or do couples need to go elsewhere?
Our three unique wedding reception spaces can also be utilised as a ceremony space.
The natural light in the Seamstress Floor, the barrel wall in the Barrel Shed or the rustic fire place in the main bar all provide a picture perfect back drop for your ceremony.
You’re known for your food and wine and we know foodies will love you, can you tell us about your food and wine offering for couples looking to be married at Mitchell Harris?
Our kitchen team is headed by Chef Jeremy Duxbury who worked previously at Stokehouse Melbourne. We take great pride in crafting seasonal menus filled with local produce , showcasing our region as well as the skill and craftsmanship of our kitchen crew. We stick to what we do best! We love serving banquet feasts as well as cocktail events with tasty canapé delicacies and generous bowl dishes.
Our hand selected event wine list consists of a great local range of both red and white wines. Out of town guests will love the opportunity to select from a range of Western Victoria’s best drops. And it’s not just great wine we serve – we have a mouth watering beer selection, ciders, soft drinks and spirits.
Do you have a dedicated wedding co-ordinator who can guide couples who book with Mitchell Harris?
We certainly do, Clare is onsite to assist couples in making their wedding day dream a reality. Happily meeting with couples, we conduct a site visit to truly understand the feel and vision you have for your wedding reception.

Do you have set wedding packages or is there room for flexibility?
We supply couples with our wedding package, this information has the choice of a seated dining or canapés style reception. Whilst this is the starting point there is also the exciting option to personalise your reception with additional features. Simply reach out and we can share these great additions within our wedding package.
What’s the process for locking in your venue?
Complete an event enquiry on our website, this is sent directly to Clare. Clare will then answer any initial questions you have and send you our detailed wedding information and seasonal menus for you to look over. When you’re ready to lock in your special date we require a $500 event charge to be paid, once this is done get ready to send out your save the date cards!!

- choose a venue that suits your styled and when visiting, ensure you feel comfortable in the space
- Photobility (yes, it’s a real word!) make sure there are plenty of locations to have incredible photos taken of your wedding day.
