At The Heads

A waterfront wedding venue in Barwon Heads

At The Heads sits right on the water in Barwon Heads, where the Barwon River meets the ocean. The dining room is built around warm timber and floor-to-ceiling glass with bi-fold doors that open directly onto a deck above the water. When the doors are open on a warm evening and your guests are looking out at the Bluff and the river mouth, it’s hard to think of a better spot on the Bellarine to be married.

This is a restaurant-venue, which is so much of its appeal. The in-house kitchen is known for modern Australian cooking with a strong seafood focus using local Bellarine produce. Everything from the food to the coordination is handled by the expert team here, led by wedding coordinator Daisy, who guides couples from first enquiry to last dance.

Ceremony locations at At The Heads

Outdoor ceremonies can be held overlooking the jetty and the river, or on the beach at the mouth of the Barwon River, or at the famous Barwon Heads Bridge.

For wet weather or winter weddings, an indoor ceremony space sits beneath the venue’s exposed beams and timber floors, still with those breathtaking coastal views.

Each option gives you a different relationship with the water; you choose based on the time of day, the season and the atmosphere you want.

Reception spaces and micro weddings

The full venue accommodates up to 130 guests seated or 150 cocktail, with the Mulloway Room available as a private space for the bridal party. For smaller celebrations, the Mulloway Room can be booked independently for micro weddings — 54 seated or 80 cocktail — with its own entry, courtyard access and views of the Bluff.

The culinary team offers seated packages, shared feasts and cocktail service, with the option to work directly with the Head Chef on a custom menu. Live oyster shucking, grazing spreads and dessert canapés are all available additions.

Cost: Enquire for wedding packages.

Capacity: Full venue 130 seated / 150 cocktail. Mulloway Room (micro weddings) 54 seated / 80 cocktail.

Indoors/outdoors: Multiple outdoor ceremony locations (jetty, river mouth, Bluff, beach, Barwon Heads Bridge). Indoor ceremony and reception space with bi-fold doors opening to the water.

Distance from Melbourne: Approximately 90 minutes from Melbourne CBD. 25 minutes from Geelong.

Wedding styles that suit At The Heads

At The Heads works for couples who want an elevated coastal wedding in a proper restaurant setting with serious food, right on the water. The venue’s strength is that everything is contained: ceremony on the beach or by the jetty, reception inside with the doors open, no transport, no logistics.

Winter weddings are increasingly popular here, with fairy lights across the rafters, open fireplaces and the moody coastal light that the Bellarine does particularly well in the cooler months.

“The Heads was the absolute perfect venue for our wedding. The views were stunning, the food was incredible, and the atmosphere was exactly what we wanted, elegant, and a party!!

Maddy, our event manager, was a dream to work with. She was organised, kind, and made sure every detail ran smoothly from start to finish. The rest of the staff were just as amazing, friendly and professional.

What we loved most was that it felt like both a beautiful wedding venue and the ultimate party house. We had the most fun night of our lives, dancing, celebrating, and making memories with everyone we love, all in one unforgettable space.

Our guests haven’t stopped talking about how incredible the whole experience was. We can’t recommend The Heads, Maddy, and the entire team enough!”
