Magical ceremony music moments with Tillee Music

You’re madly ticking through your wedding planning to-do-list when you hit ‘choose ceremony music!’.

Excitedly, you trawl through your iTunes playlists and begin feeling weepy as you listen to some all time faves, dreaming of your totally fabulous entrance. However, what initially can seem like a fun and easy task, can potentially turn into a stress inducing nightmare when you and your hubby-to-be begin the love ballad battle.
Music choice is tough! After all, we each have our own individual tastes and a song you imagined was ‘perfect’, might be a nightmare choice for your husband.

We wanted the low-down on ceremony music and making these all important choices. So it was only natural that we sat down with Ivory Tribe music makers – Tillee Music –  to get the inside info on cracking ceremony music.

How many songs does a wedding ceremony generally have and at what stages do they take place in the ceremony?

We find three to four songs will cover the ceremony just perfectly. Couples select these songs and they don’t have to be part of our repertoire, we are really happy to learn them just for the couple’s big day. So you need to select songs for the following;

Aisle song for bridesmaids (this isn’t always requested)

Aisle song for the bride

Signing of the marriage certificate song

Exit song

What should a couple consider when choosing their ceremony songs?

While many of our couples have a massive love for music, we also have some couples unsure of what they want for their wedding day. My tips are always choose songs that you both connect with – whether it be an artist you love, an era you both love the memory of or a style of music you love. If our couples get stuck we’re always happy to send some recommendations of songs we’ve recently played for couples or they could be songs we are simply busting to play.

Would you recommend any particular genre of music for stages of the ceremony?

Let’s be real here – I’ve never seen a dance tune played in a dance tempo for an aisle song but hey, it could definitely happen. We will always pull the tunes right back to allow the bride and her maidey’s time to enjoy walking down the aisle at a more chilled pace. This way they can take as long as they like. In saying this, if a couple request a specific version of a song, we’ll be sure to play it just that way.

When choosing songs for the ceremony do you think they should a have a message of love/marriage/commitment in them?

I don’t necessarily think all song choices need to say ‘I love you’. Quite a few tunes we have requested are selected because of their melodic structure. Don’t get me wrong, some song writers are absolutely insane when it comes to lyrics and I love that, but I’m an absolute sucker for songs with beautiful compositions.

Would you recommend a bride or groom choosing the music and keeping it as a surprise for the other?

We’ve had a few brides do this and I think its gorgeous, it keeps the groom and guests in utter suspense for what she’ll look like, and what kind of mood the song choice will set. Every time we’ve had this request I fight back the tears too.

What do you think a bride should do if their hubby-to-be completely hates the songs the bride is suggesting?

I think you need to agree on something like this – I’m planning my own wedding at the moment and it’s been such a journey to find our perfect ‘aisle’ song. We listened to artists we love, styles of music we love and also lyrics we love. Then finally, after a good couples of months, we found it, both teared up and just knew it was ’THE SONG’. This doesn’t have to be everyone’s experience but at least be on the same page as each other.

What makes a great ceremony song choice?

A great ceremony song choice? Well the song should mean something to you. Everyone will have an opinion or a suggestion and that’s great but when you both connect with the songs you’ve chose for your ceremony that’s all that matters. Overtime, when you hear those songs, it’s a beautiful reminder of your wedding day.
