Real Wedding – Dominique & Jordan, Coldstream VIC

For high school sweethearts Dom and Jordan, the emphasis on their wedding day was to celebrate and reflect on the joy, happiness and vibrancy they experience together. And wow, did they nail the brief. Sweet, ethereal romance is underpinned with timeless elegance for an effect that is equal parts effortless and euphoric.

We love the soft lace detailing on Dom’s classicly whimsical gown, which coalesces perfectly with Jordan’s deep green and sand ‘fit, and the bridesmaids in burnished sage.

Stunning floral arrangements by The Redwood Florist add another layer of beauty to this dreamy day. Their gentle arrangements, in a perfect palette of soft peach, neon tangerine, and bold red accents, create a visual feast of stunning textural juxtapositions. The overall effect is like a chic contemporary fairytale, a perfect aesthetic to harmonise and elevate the venue, the gorgeous Riverstone Estate.

There to capture every sweet emotion in artfully balanced images is photographer Glen Nicholls. Scroll on to see it unfold.

The meeting.

We met in high school in Brisbane and have been dating since Year 12.

The ‘one’.

I don’t know if either of us had a specific moment. It just became harder to imagine our lives apart.

The proposal.

Jordan organised a little treasure hunt around the botanical gardens we like to visit sometimes and popped the question at the last stop of the hunt.

Planning process.

We didn’t really know where to start, so we began by googling venues and following the ones we liked on Instagram. We found our other suppliers through either the venue or our photographer.

We got started pretty early because we both have lots of Uni and Work commitments, so we felt fairly relaxed in the months leading up to the day.

Style inspiration.

We wanted the day to be really bright and happy to show our joy!

The ceremony.

The weather was beautiful and misty but not quite raining, which was fortunate as our ceremony was outdoors. The whole day was fairly relaxed, and it was just a beautiful moment for us to share with our loved ones.

The look.

We wanted to keep it pretty classic and simple for the outfits. It was important to me (Dom) that the bridesmaids all felt comfortable in their dresses so they each chose a style they liked in the colour I wanted.

For the guys, we kept it pretty simple and tried to choose pieces that could be worn again.

Again, we wanted to keep our own outfits simple and classic but stand out from the rest of the group. I went to a few stores before finding my dress, and the same was true for Jordan’s suit.

Favourite moments.

Walking down the aisle and seeing Jordan waiting there for me.

Meaning of marriage.

It means teamwork and helping each other through everyday life. It also means we get to wake up next to the person we love every day, and that never gets old.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: By My Side by The Paper Kites.

Signing: Your Song by Elton John

Funny stories.

The best man got the date AND time of his flight wrong, so he was a little bit late to the festivities leading up to the day, but he got there in the end and gave Jordan some ammo for his speech.

Planning surprises.

There were so many little details that I would never care about in real life (like neckties?) that I suddenly had to have a strong opinion about.

Words of wisdom.

Start early! And ask for help. Don’t try to do everything yourself. The odds are that you have so many people around you who love you and would LOVE to help, and it just helps take the pressure off.
