Real Wedding – Emily & Jason, Hesse VIC
When a goal of the day is that no wedding guests drive past McDonald’s on the way home – you know that the food (and love!) is going to be overflowing.
Contemporary country styling with a curated menu of ‘everyday’ food and drinks combined for a celebration that was as down-to-earth as Emily and Jason themselves.
The beauty of Barunah Plains shone bright as 170 guests socialized at sunset and danced to the epic soundtrack provided by supreme entertainers Hey Jack.
Emily’s previous experience working in a bridal store proved invaluable when the time came to choose a dress that suited her personality – and party plans – best.

The meeting.
We met roughly 10-11 years ago. Jase was very close friends with my two brothers. The more we went out camping and socializing together, the more we got to know one another and after a couple of years we decided to go out on a date to “A Boy Named Sue” woodfire pizza restaurant in St Andrew’s. We won’t lie, it was hard to juggle at first especially with Em’s brothers giving curfew times and being overprotective of their littlest sister but soon enough they welcomed the idea of us getting together and it certainly wouldn’t have happened without their encouragement.
The ‘one’.
Jase said “it was instant” but Em needed six months of convincing. There was always a spark between us and only after a few dates we realized how much we had in common.
The proposal.
After six years of dating Jase had the ring made and planned to propose at Cradle Mountain in Tasmania but due to the pandemic the trip was cancelled so instead we took a spontaneous trip to Noosa. We went for a hike at Rainbow Beach where we overlooked the ocean. It’s perched high up on the sand dunes and is an infamous spot for watching the sunset. I was starving on the hike and was persistent about going back and getting a pizza to sit and eat while watching the sun come down. Little did I know the strict timing Jase had planned. There was no time for my hungry tummy so we hiked to the most romantic spot overlooking the ocean with the fast-dropping sun and Jase got down on one knee with shakey, sweating hands and asked the big make or break question!
Planning process.
Having a pure passion for the bridal industry and having worked as a bridal consultant, we both found that it wasn’t a draining process at all. We were both were excited to plan our day to signify us and who we are together. To start with, using a planning book helped have everything planned and with the excitement of getting engaged I knew that was the first place to start. With great recommendations and constantly referring to Ivory Tribe we had all the inspiration and information to plan each step.
Style inspiration.
After uplifting our life 45 minutes from our friends and family to regional Victoria and purchasing land 7 years ago, we knew exactly the style we wanted: country. We wanted something formal without some of the traditional elements that can easily turn boring. We wanted something outdoorsy where food and drink was easily available and near to limitless so no one was driving past Maccas on the way home like we often do after a wedding. Having a cocktail themed wedding with “everyday” food and alcohol, really got people up and about socializing, filling their bellies and having a good time. We wanted all of our loved ones to let their hair down and just be their free selves. Another main selling factor of picking our venue was making sure that there was accommodation on the site as well as nearby. We had lots of guests traveling to our wedding and we wanted the convenience for everyone. Plus, we found that more people got involved and were less stressed about finding their way home after drinking. I can confirm that guests loved it because after we both said our goodbyes to the guests everyone continued to party. It truly was a dream.
The ceremony.
It was a beautiful and sunny day out on the lawn overlooking the lagoon – a perfect rural setting. However, what made it special is the people that we had there. Sitting and listening to all our personal vows about one another, getting to laugh and relive our special moments together – it’s something else.
The outfit.
I wanted something elegant, timeless and comfortable. Jase always (lovingly) says I am a bogan and a Barbie so I looked like a Barbie on the day and at night I put back on my RM Williams boots to surprise Jase which he loved. Having previously worked at a bridal store I found it most difficult picking the perfect dress. I had tried on numerous dresses while working to help pick out future gowns to sell to customers so all I knew was that I wanted to be able to make the dress interchangeable on the night. I choose to wear sleeves at the ceremony and then remove the sleeves for the reception just to make it more unique for myself. We went and had Jason’s suit tailor made as we wanted a top-tier look with the assurance of comfort.
Favourite moments.
Apart from the butterfly feeling we both had at the beginning of the ceremony and sharing our vows, the most memorable and best feeling was being surrounded by everyone that we love and them wanting to share the love that we have for each other. It truly is the best feeling in the world, finding that one person that you want to share all your highs and lows with.
Meaning of marriage.
Marriage means everything. It means eternal love, protection, support and backing each other no matter what curveball life throws at us as an individual or as a couple.

Funny stories/near disasters.
Well put aside the fact a rather large flood come through only weeks prior to our wedding, knocking over the tree we were meant to get married under, it all went fairly well. We even jumped in the pool at the end of the night in our wedding kits.
Words of wisdom.
You are not the host on the night you are also a guest, so just soak up every single second of every moment. The day flies by in comparison to how much work is involved in planning so enjoy all the small things. Soak up all the moments leading up to the day. Time is your ally so even if you think the wedding is years away, start planning things earlier rather than later because we promise that you will enjoy it so much more not being stressed the last couple months.
