Real Wedding – Jackie & Peter, Collingwood VIC

Elegant romance, fresh modern style with a timeless twist, and just a hint of cheeky sass coalesce to perfection in Jackie and Peter’s dream day. Every fabulous frame by Nikki McCrone photography captures the uplifting emotion of the day, and just when we thought it couldn’t get any better – the newlyweds’s dog, Celine Dion, pops up for a cameo appearance.

Gorgeously effervescent, this is one celebration that reflects the fun-filled personalities of the couple and showcases their lifestyle beautifully. With a first-look photo shoot encompassing inner Melbourne’s iconic streetscapes and parklands, Jackie and Peter simply glow. Jackie wears a gown by Melbourne designer Popovski from the tasteful team at Bluebell Bridal, giving ultra-glam with a fun contemporary twist. Peter’s Institchu double-breasted suit is pure classic chic, elevated only by his permanent heart eyes – it’s obvious to all that this is one besotted Mr and Mrs.

Planning-wise, these two nailed the brief by keeping their celebratory aspect firmly front and centre while being decisive with their vendor choices. This allowed them to enjoy the process and ease into their dream day, feeling amped up and ready to feel the love.

The meeting.

We met online via an app called Happen. Jackie initially told her family that Peter was her real estate agent as she preferred a Disney-style story, but everyone caught on after the story kept changing!

The ‘one’.

Jackie: as soon as we met, I felt inner peace and like I had known him for years.

Peter: on our first date, I walked across the road to pick her up, and I gave her my elbow, and she locked her arm in mine, and when we crossed the road together, it felt like we had done it for 100 years.

The proposal.

It happened on our five-year anniversary at precisely 5.46pm – the day and time I picked her up for our first date. It was on a night out with friends.

Planning process.

Jackie: the process was easy as I was an MC for my cousin’s wedding the year prior, and I loved her videographer, photographer, and musician, so we booked them. All the rest was easy as we only gave ourselves four months to plan, so we didn’t have time to change our minds.

Style inspiration.

We love the modern, contemporary vibe, and the venue speaks for itself.

Jackie: I was blessed with a “human cheat sheet” as I own a beauty business, and I prep brides with all their beauty treatments prior to their wedding day. I soon learnt what to do and what not to do just through conversations with them.

The ceremony.

Being able to have our chihuahua Celine Dion at our wedding and having a Celine Dion song play was a highlight. Our ceremony was romantic and fun, basically an extension of who we are as a couple. It was relaxed for our guests as the ceremony and reception were at the same venue.

The look.

Peter: I wore a classic black wool post-prohibition, tailor-made suit as I’m 6 foot 4 and struggle to find my size.

Jackie: For me, it was modern Greek goddess vibes, even though I’m Lebanese/English. I saw my dress online, and I knew straight away it was the one before I even went into the store. I loved the concept of a two-in-one dress.

Favourite moments.

Jackie: It’s so hard to say! I loved our first look and Celine walking down the aisle.

Peter: The speeches.

Meaning of marriage.

Peter: Feeling secure in our love, something I have wanted to accomplish for so long.

Jackie: When you find the person who brings out the best in you.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Tale As Old As Time from the Beauty and the Beast Soundtrack (Orchestral version)

Recessional: A Whole New World from the Aladdin Soundtrack (Orchestral version)

Reception entry: Lebanese flute, drums and bouzouki, as Jackie is Lebanese and Peter is Greek.

First dance: Can’t Get Enough of You by Barry White, with a mash up of Freak Out, Beyoncé and Tom Jones.

Funny stories or near disasters.

The week before the wedding, we tested positive for COVID-19. Thankfully, two days prior, we tested negative – it was super stressful!

Planning surprises.

How the venues made it all come together, and how seamlessly the photographer made it for us.

Words of wisdom.

Do what YOU want to do, and the guests will feel the love and enjoy it so much more. If you worry about having the best of everything or sweat over the small stuff, you will lose what it is really about, which is a celebration of love.
