Real Wedding – Jordy & Paris, Wahgunyah VIC

With a reception entry that went viral on TikTok (epic champagne moves by Jordy!) to a contemporary garden party style ethos, Paris and Jordy’s dream celebration is memorable for so many reasons. Notable mentions go to Paris’s stunning Kyha gown with perfectly of-the-now statement sleeves, chic all-white ceremony styling, and gorgeous golden hour portraits, thanks to photographer Katie Hillary.

We love a couple who make their wedding celebration truly their own, and Paris and Jordy absolutely did so. Their planning tip? Make individual lists of ”must haves” and ”want, but don’t need”, combine them, and keep coming back to these as the planning progresses.

Scroll on to see the viral video and enjoy all of the dreamy, fun-filled details of this epic celebration.

The meeting.

It was in the thick of Covid, and my (Paris’) dad played Cupid. Dad had said that he was working with this great guy (Jordy), and he thought we would get along well. Typical me brushed it off. However, a few days passed and I thought I had nothing to lose, so after a little social media stalk, I realised we had matched on tinder. So I slid into his DMs, and the rest is history.

The one.

There was a combination of events/moments in the first four months where we knew we had something special. There was a real sense of ease, happiness and fun. Something I’d never been privy to before. I thought I’d hit the jackpot.

The proposal.

After four months of genuine bullying (more like hints) from me, my friends and my mother, Jordy gave in. Jordy wanted a fishing boat and I wanted a diamond.

It was a beautiful summer’s night on Lake Mulwala, and Jordy had mentioned going out on the BBQ Boat. We had just welcomed our little boy into the world, and I was nervous about leaving him, and I really didn’t want to go on the boat. After some convincing, Jordy, Hugo (the dog), and I went out for an evening cruise. After cruising around for about 45 minutes, Jordy started acting weird. He got down on one knee, and I screamed with excitement, to which he said, “Relax, I’m just getting a beer.”

About an hour had passed, and we were cruising back to town. Jordy was thinking that it wasn’t likely we would have another good night and opportunity like this for a while, so he figured he’d do it sooner rather than later.

So, he got down on one knee and asked, “Will ya?”

And I went on to ask him, “Will ya what?” And made him ask correctly.

Obviously, I said yes, and then we rang around and told our closest friends and family and went to celebrate with some champagne.

Planning process.

We took a very relaxed approach to planning and had a long engagement of almost two years. We originally wanted a destination wedding and had booked a venue in Queensland’s Hinterland, but decided it was too hard to plan from Victoria. So, we decided to look local. I’m a very indecisive person, but I had the help of my amazing bridesmaids, who made the whole process so much fun.

One of the first things we did when starting to plan our wedding was write lists of ‘must haves’ and ‘want but don’t need’. This was useful for both of us to do, as it was important for us that the day was what we both wanted!

Style inspiration.

As soon as we toured Quondong, we instantly fell in love with the property! The venue is a stunning old homestead surrounded by lush green gardens. I always envisaged a garden party style wedding.

I enlisted the help of Mel from The Pretty Party Co and sent her a mood board with a few ideas and let her do the rest.

When booking suppliers, we found our our celebrants, photographers, and musicians through Instagram and other real wedding sites.

The ceremony.

Our celebrant Haidee made us feel so at ease. She described our love story perfectly and had everyone relaxed and engaged. Our ceremony was light-hearted and fun. My dad walked me down the aisle, and this was such a special and surreal moment. It still gives me goosebumps thinking about it. Harry from Deus Sax sang a slow, acoustic version of Simply The Best.  We asked my brother and Jordy’s sister to be our witnesses, and it was so special to see their reaction, as we kept it a surprise.

The outfits.

For Jordy, he went to Peter Jackson. He opted for a traditional tuxedo for him and his groomsmen.

For Paris, I booked into a couple of stores and ended up going with a Kyha gown. I had an idea of what I wanted to try on prior to my appointment, and as soon as I put on the Hazel gown I knew it was the one. I had my Mum and two of my bridesmaids with me, and we all cried. It was such a special moment.

Favourite moments.

There we so many favourite moments, however Jordy and I grabbed a bottle of champagne and snuck away for about ten minutes and looked down at the marquee and dancefloor to see all our favourite people in one place having the best night.

A very close second would have to be Jordy’s entrance into the reception, popping champagne bottles – Lando Norris style.

Meaning of marriage.

Marriage is the ultimate commitment of love and support for each other. It means we have a best friend beside us for the rest of our lives. It means that we can share the best and the worst parts of each other without judgement.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Simply The Best (Acoustic) by Tina Turner

Signing: Signed, Sealed, Delivered by Stevie Wonder

Recessional: Ain’t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye

Reception entry (wedding party): You Make My Dreams Come True by Daryl Hall & John Oates

Reception entry (bride & groom): Gimme Gimme Gimme by ABBA

First dance: Only To Be With You by Roachford – sung acoustically by Harry.

Words of wisdom.

Invest in a stylist or wedding planner. It’s one less thing you need to stress about leading up to the day and the morning of the wedding. Also, the day really does fly by (everyone will warn you), so make sure you soak up everything from getting ready in the morning with your girls to the moment you walk down the aisle. Our celebrant told us that when I got to the top of the aisle, turn around and look at everyone. All your favourite people in one room – here to celebrate the two of you. It’s honestly a very special moment and one that we will cherish forever.
