Real Wedding – Laura & Josh, Melbourne VIC
Laura and Josh’s elopement is the perfect example of how sweet and stress-free can also mean big on impact and emotion. These two cool cats give a masterclass on how to make a wedding celebration effortlessly chic and fun.
Kicking off their day together with a bottle of bubbles, these two soon-to-be newlyweds made their way through the urban streetscape of Melbourne, snapping rockstar-style shots along the way. We can’t get enough of Laura’s stunningly simply gown by Edit the Label, perfectly accessorised with a fabulously bright bouquet by Astro Daphne and killer violet sunglasses.
After making it official at the registry office, the new Mr and Mrs celebrated over tacos and margs, did a little vintage shopping, and then settled in for a night of love and laughter at the Comedy Fest.
With photographer Two of a Kind behind the lens, every gorgeous moment is made movie scene perfect. To see more of this casually cool celebration, scroll on.
The meeting.
We met at a mutual friend’s 21st. It was a masquerade (very Romeo and Juliet!).
The ‘one’.
I am not sure if there was ever a moment. We just make each other laugh and enjoy similar things.
The proposal.
At our home. Josh bought 50 tea light candles and put them in the garden walkway. This led to a vintage mirror on which he’d written with red lipstick (he said it was the only thing that would stick on the mirror). The mirror read, “Will you marry me?”. It was very unexpected – I was putting the kids to bed!
Planning process.
Planning was easy; we knew we wanted something simple and easy. After confirming the registry office, we organised the hotel, flowers and photographer. Then, of course, covid hit, so we rescheduled up to five times (I think). All parties involved were so accommodating with changing dates.
Style inspiration.
Simple with a splash of colour.
The ceremony.
Just us, short, sweet and fun.
The look.
The wedding dress was found through a photography blog on Instagram when searching Melbourne photographers. The dress has big puffed sleeves – I love a big puff sleeve. The suit was bought a week before – simple!
Favourite moments.
Visiting Eric’s secret photo spots. As we are not local, we really enjoyed walking around Melbourne city.
Also, the crazy champagne popping – we were getting ready for a photo, but the cork just came out accidentally, and it sprayed all over the place. It’s just fun and ridiculous!!
Meaning of marriage.
Someone to do life with, good and the bad.
Wedding soundtrack.
We didn’t have one, BUT if we had to pick, it might have been Coldplay “Scientist”.
Funny stories or near disasters.
Not on the day! Just covid and the five times we rescheduled, we didn’t think we would get there.
Planning surprises.
The amount of paperwork to do prior to the day.
Words of wisdom.
Just enjoy the day. Eloping was amazing.
