Real Wedding – Lucy & Nick, Princetown VIC

Always hoping they could celebrate their day by the beach, but also close to the bush, Lucy and Nick found their dream location in Princetown.

There were so many perfectly personal touches that Lucy and Nick added with their DIY flair shown in full force in their gorgeous decor. Creating a cosy, country style wedding, their guests felt relaxed before hitting the dancefloor in style.

Tribe favourite, Michael Renga, was there to capture all the memorable moments.

In Lucy’s words…

The meeting

We met at Mount Hotham in 2014, Nick was working on the mountain, and I had driven up for the weekend with some friends. We met out one night at a bar, we ended up spending the entire weekend together; when my friends drove home I stayed at Hotham, and Nick drove me home a few day later. We have been inseparable ever since.

The ‘one’.

Although it sounds corny, it was absolutely a love at first sight experience. It was as though we had known each other for years.

The proposal.

Nick proposed when we were on holidays in Cuba. We were walking along the beach, underneath a bamboo shelter when Nick asked me to turn around, when I looked back he was on one knee. I cried for so long Nick had to confirm if it was a yes!

Planning process.

Planning our wedding was easy! It was a huge creative venture, my sister and I created and made all of the decorations, signs, and settings. Our family and friends were always there to offer up helpful ideas, from the menu layout to the alter design and construction. Planning our wedding was extremely fun; due to our location, we were free to pick and choose every detail ourselves.

I had not realized how much decorations and ideas we had put into place until the day before our wedding when we were setting up. It took all day and all night to set up the location, thank goodness for our friends and family who were there to help!

Style inspiration.

We always said we wanted to have a beach/bush wedding, so our theme was somewhere between beach vibe to cozy country style.

The dress.

My mum, sister and I went to Bluebell Bridal in Melbourne; I had seen some photos online and liked the style of Made with Love dresses. I had the most wonderful retail assistant Rea, I had given Rea a few ideas on what I was looking for and she intuitively picked the perfect dress on the first go. It was a dress I didn’t originally think I would go for, but as soon as I tried it on, there was no doubt that this was ‘the dress’!

Favourite moment.

We loved every moment of the day, it flew by so fast – However if we had to choose, walking back down the aisle with our friends and family cheering was an absolute highlight, as well as listening to the speeches!

Meaning of marriage.

Marriage is a commitment to nurture and support another person for the rest of your lives.

Wedding soundtrack.

Aisle: Can’t help falling in love – Elvis

Signing: What a wonderful world – Louis Armstrong

Walking back down isle:  Higher love – Steve Winwood

Dance: Crazy love – Van Morrison

Funny stories (or near disasters).

On the morning of our ceremony I was busy making last minute changes to the seating arrangements and putting up decorations. Nick ended up arriving earlier than anticipated to enjoy having a beer and chatting with friends and family, so I was in hiding and had no idea if the ceremony area had all the little details added, it was an amazing to walk out and see that some of our friends had set up the area perfectly and even more amazingly than I could have imagined.

Planning surprises.

We had planned every detail of our wedding far in advance, and thought things would therefore go smoothly, we were so surprised at just how many times things didn’t go as planned or looked completely different in real life, and just how necessary it was to ‘go with the flow’.

Words of wisdom.

Go with the flow! Some things won’t turn out as you had planned and it may feel like a big deal at the time, but when the night is over all you will remember is the incredible time you had with your family and friends.
