Real Wedding – Yasmin & Stu, Melbourne VIC

What was a fairly stress-free wedding planning process, resulted in a beautiful inner-city celebration for Yasmin and Stu.

Oozing urban vibes, their venue set the scene for a modern and relaxed yet magical beginning to their marriage.

It was a match made in heaven when Yasmin stumbled upon the perfect One Day Bridal gown, and boy did she wow her husband Stu and all their guests.

The declaration from Tribe celebrant Megan Thompson, that proclaimed Yasmin and Stu to officially be husband and wife, was a highlight for this sweet pair and Tess Follett was on hand to capture it all.

In Yasmin’s words…

The meeting.

We met on Facebook 10 years ago when meeting people online was not something people would do. Whenever people asked how we met, we said that we met at a party, until recently, because it is more acceptable now.

The ‘one’.

Once we moved in together and realised we loved spending time together. We didn’t get bored of each other and loved doing to little things together.

The proposal.

We were on a holiday in Hawaii. We were on a beach in Turtle Bay. He found a quiet spot and popped the question. He didn’t buy the ring because he knew I would be picky about which ring I would like, so instead he found me a shell and I have kept that shell to this day.

The process.

It was pretty stress free. I knew what I liked and had help from my amazing bridesmaids. I also spent hours online doing a lot of research, looking at blogs and pinterest. I used contacts and spoke to lots of people already in the wedding industry who lead me in the right direction.

Style inspiration.

We wanted a modern, city theme. We both grew up in Melbourne and wanted to use that as our inspiration.

The dress.

I looked at a few dresses online and found a store that I loved – One Day Bridal in South Melbourne. I went to the store with my bridesmaids and tried on a few dresses. By the third dress, as soon as I put it on, I knew it was the one.

Favourite moments.

Our favourite moment of the day was straight after the ceremony when the celebrant said, “you may now kiss the bride” and we got to walk out of the courtyard, hand in hand, as a married couple.

Meaning of marriage.

Marriage means having a partner to share life with. Someone to go through the ups and downs with. Someone to laugh with. Someone to travel with. Someone to sit on the couch with and binge Netflix.

Wedding soundtrack.

Funny stories (or near disasters).

One of the groomsmen turned up to the guys house to get ready without his belt. His girlfriend drove over and dropped it off. Then he realised he left his pants at home and he couldn’t reach her, so he jumped in an uber and had to go home and pick them up.

Words of wisdom.

Plan your big day as best you can, but when the time comes it probably wont run exactly as planned, and thats okay. Just let it be and it will all work out. Don’t worry, no one will notice.

City weddings hold a special place in our hearts. If you’re looking to capture the magic of the urban jungle, take inspiration from some of our favourite Melbourne venues here.
