Real Wedding – Sarah & Adrian, Collingwood VIC
When the dress code reads ‘razzle dazzle’, you know you’re in for a wedding that packs a little extra personality.
Rupert on Rupert was dripping with disco balls, streamer installations, and brightly-hued blooms when Adrian and Sarah painted the town red (and pink!) for their big day.
The couple set a stylish tone in their respective velvet jacket and off-the-shoulder jumpsuit, made with fabric sourced by the experts at D’Italia.
The Melbourne celebrant behind Precious Celebrations wove magic on the mic to deliver a ceremony that perfectly reflected the couple’s love and energy.
Behind the lens, photographer Nikki McCrone didn’t miss one delicious detail of this creatively curated yet carefree affair.
See them all below.
The meeting.
We met on Tinder during the peak pandemic lockdown and then caught up at Edinburgh Gardens to have a socially distanced date.
The ‘one’.
I text my mum three dates in saying ‘I think I am going to marry him’. Adrian text his dad a picture of me after the first date.
The proposal.
It was perfect. Adrian waited until my best friend from the UK was here to celebrate with us and took me back to Edinburgh Gardens and set up a similar (but better) format of our first date, with a picnic blanket, bottle of champagne, Furphy’s and some of my favourite cheeses. Our other best friends were all hiding around the park watching and then we all went for a pub lunch.
Planning process.
It was actually very chilled and relaxed. We knew exactly what we wanted and the suppliers to make it happen. The biggest thing for us was ensuring we had our favourite people there and that we got the exact atmosphere that we wanted – which is something that can’t be planned.
Style inspiration.
Adrian and I are very social. We absolutely love socialising and throwing a good party – and that’s exactly what we wanted to do. We didn’t want anything traditional and just wanted to celebrate. I love red and pinks and wanted to incorporate that colour palette and against the greenery of Rupert, it was perfect (in my option)! I let my bridesmaids choose and pick their own dresses (nothing worse than being forced into something that you don’t feel comfortable with and doesn’t suit your shape! – the only requirements was that there be two red and two pink. I wanted the day to feel like us, nothing that people would say, ‘I didn’t expect that’, or ‘that didn’t seem like them’. I think our wedding was a true representation of us and what we love – fun, good food, a piano man, a multitude of disco balls, relaxed and laidback. Our dress code was ‘razzle dazzle’ and we didn’t want to be prescriptive with what people wore, we just wanted them to be themselves.
The ceremony.
It was so very us. Nothing too gushing and loving but special, funny and laidback. Precious – our celebrant – captured us so perfectly and we felt in such good and safe hands with her. Seeing all our friends and family who had flown over from the UK here in Melbourne with us, was truly amazing and I remember trying to capture it in my head, thinking ‘we will never have all these people together again’.
The outfit.
This was tricky. I went to sooooo many shops trying to find something that was ‘me’ and I hated everything. My friend gave me the idea of having something made and as soon as she did I was 100% invested – that resulted in my jumpsuit. I love high waisted and wide legged trousers so this was perfect, something simple but elegant, easy to dance in and could be worn separately again! My jacket was a little bit of fun and fitted perfectly for the reception with our dress code, Razzle Dazzle. I loved it and cannot wait to wear it again to a gig or festival. It was handmade and was just a perfect switch up for the dance floor.
Favourite moments.
This is hard, and I honestly couldn’t say just one or two – I loved every second from the minute I woke up. It was all so seamless and fun being with my best friends and mum in the morning and then the ceremony and the reception. I loved seeing Adrian at the end of the aisle and we had a private moment after the ceremony where we had some oysters and champagne to celebrate privately.
Meaning of marriage.
It’s about cementing something forever, going through the good and the bad and being a team unit. That’s my favourite thing about being in a crowded room of people together – I know that my teammate is there.

Planning surprises.
That it is as stressful as you make it. If you set a day aside and make it fun, have a nice dinner, bottle of wine, the planning part can be really fun. Always do something stressful like the seating plan out of the house and stick to what you want – don’t let family friends take over! Honestly, I can’t stress the importance of good suppliers – they will, and should, take a lot of your stress off you. I was dreading having photos being taken but as soon as I met Nikki on the day she made it so seamless and I took to posing like a bird to water! She was just perfect at creating the best atmosphere.
Words of wisdom.
Stick to what you want, there is no right or wrong. Just because someone else did something, doesn’t mean you have to. You can plan everything to an inch of its life but you cannot buy atmosphere and fun- that’s the stuff people remember. Pick your suppliers wisely, good, trusted suppliers are worth their weight in gold. Make sure you meet your suppliers and check you gel with them, it’s super important on the day that you can have a laugh. Don’t be scared to push the boundaries do something fun and go against the grain – it’s only one day make sure you enjoy it and let the reins go, only you will notice the small details that didn’t go exactly to plan. Practice your soft smile!
